THANKS TO OUR  WILDCAT SPONSORS!

Join Our Mailing List
Well, the big excitement of last week was the appearance (in most homes!) of the Westland Student Directory. Apart from a slight glitch in the "Listing by Grade" section, it looks great! We will be sending home an Addendum this week that fixes that section, and includes a few other corrections as well.

Many thanks to those volunteers who helped get the Directory distributed last Monday. Jan Eisner, Marjorie Galleher, Georgia Moore, and Joci Spector labelled and sorted the Directories, while Ari Antonelli, Karen Dubrow, Michelle Hainbach, Renee Magner, Katherine McGreivy, and Linda Wolpert braved the lunch crowds with me and handed out almost 1,000 Directories!  If you'd like to purchase an additional Directory for your car or office, they're just $5 (payable to the Westland PTA).  Please e-mail me and I'll arrange to get one to you.

We had a great PTA meeting last Wednesday, Oct. 22. About 50 parents came out to hear Principal Danny Vogelman deliver his "State of the School" address.  We also heard from Officer Witherspoon of the Bethesda Police Dept. about a variety of safety issues that affect our kids. I sent out a summary of the meeting on Westland-net for those who could not attend. If you missed it, e-mail me and I'll resend it. Thanks to Alex Weiner for arranging our guest speaker and thanks, as always, to Jan Eisner for the great refreshments!

And finally...we haven't reached our goal of 100% PTA membership yet, so if you haven't already done so, please
join the PTA today!

Red or Blue??? Westland Needs YOU!
CupcakeThe PTA's inaugural Election Day Bake Sale will be held at Westland November 4th from 7:00am until the polls close. We expect record crowds for this election and need your help to make this event a success. It's a great opportunity to view the political process up close!

SALE ITEMS NEEDED-
Baked goods of any and all kinds needed, packaged to sell individually if possible. There are some great red, white & blue recipes on line! Also, energy or cereal bars or grocery baked goods are most welcome.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED-
If baking or shopping is not in your schedule, there are other ways to help:
· Volunteer 2 hours to help and bring your Westland student for Community Service hours!
· Shop for snack food and bottled water, or pick up coffee service.
· Decorate the tables the evening before the sale (November 3rd)
· Designate your home as a drop off point for baked goods in
your neighborhood to bring the afternoon before the sale.
· Arrange for and pick up balloons.

Please contact Gwenn Marley D'Anton or call her at 301.907.2983 to volunteer!

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS ELECTION!!
Leftover Halloween Candy?Candy Corn
Did you have more candy than trick or treaters? Kids haul home more than they can/should eat? It seems a waste to throw it away, but you really want to get it out of the house...We have the perfect solution!

Treats for Troops is a huge Halloween candy collection project sponsored by MoverMoms. The concept is simple but the impact is huge --  they collect leftover and unwanted candy and donate it to a group in West Virginia that packs it in Christmas stockings and sends it to US troops (of all faiths) in Iraq and Afghanistan, in time for the holidays.

Collection this year will be at 4 locations:
  • Walt Whitman HS Sun. 11/2 from 11:00am - 5:00pm
  • B-CC HS just off East-West highway in the driveway - Sun. 11/2 from 11:00am - 3:00pm
  • 7101 Loch Lomond Drive, Bethesda - anytime 11/1-11/5
  • 11110 Candlelight Lane, Potomac - anytime 11/1-11/5.

The troops really appreciate the goodies and you get temptation out of the house.  A great thing for everyone! Any questions, please contact Joci Spector.
