New Security System Update Wed. 9/17
In a county-wide effort to upgrade school security, several new initiatives are being implemented. At Westland, a network-based closed circuit television (CCTV) camera system has been installed, and a network-based visitor management system (VMS) will be installed. Click here to read the letter sent home to Westland parents. To address parent questions and concerns about the VMS, Principal Danny Vogelman has invited Bob Hellmuth, MCPS Director of Safety & Security, to Westland. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17th, at 7:00pm in the Media Center. It will be a great opportunity for the whole Westland community to learn about this new initiative and to have your questions answered. |

 Westland Middle School's Sally Foster Gift Wrap (and More!) Fundraiser ends this Friday, September 19th. The sale is organized by the Media Center, with profits going to support technology services at Westland.

Community Service Initiatives 
This year, Westland's community service focus will be on raising awareneness of hunger-related issues, both here in Montgomery County, and further afield, and on taking steps to do something to address the tremendous need.
Co-chairs Andrea McCarren and Carrie Hurd are hard at work developing project ideas, and your input is needed! They are developing a special google list-serve for those members of the Westland community - parents, students, teachers - who want to participate in this community service effort. Please contact Andrea or Carrie to join in! |
7th & 8th Grade Parents - Family Life Info Night
The PE department offers a Family Life Informational Night meeting in order to review the curriculum for the unit. Parents of 7th and 8th graders can preview materials and discussion topics, as well as ask any questions regarding the curriculum.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 16, from 7-9pm in the Media Center at Westland.
