Happy Teacher Appreciation Month! |
|
Our way to say "Thanks" to teachers during May, Teacher Appreciation Month, is to promote fine motor instruction by integrating it easily across the curriculum! Maximize learning in the classroom by blending fine motor development activities with Math and Science curricula. Implementing fine motor across the curriculum is efficient, easy, and most importantly beneficial to students. Teachers who provide engaging activities that bridge curriculum domains engage students in meaningful play and bring learning to life. Here are just a few examples of items that work well to merge fine motor across math and science! Math and Fine Motor:
- Practice counting by moving or stacking manipulatives like Mini Dice using Tweezers that facilitate the tripod grasp.
- Develop distance estimating skills and arch building in the hands by squeezing Squishy Fish so it blows pom poms across a taped line on the desktop.
- The Magnetic Pen Number Maze (pictured below) is the perfect activity for your math center. Students will practice number recognition, counting, sorting, and lots of fine motor skill building. To increase the developmental effectiveness of the number maze, place it in the vertical position along the chalk rail or Velcro it to a wall.
Science and Fine Motor:
- Sort different Insects or Butterflies with a Picker Upper.
- Discover animal habitats and develop visual perception skills while lacing.
- Explore Sparky and watch students light up with inspiration!
