Alumni Spotlights
Roberta "Bobbi" Martinez
Southern Baptist Hospital
Bobbi Martinez
NGSU proudly recognizes alumna Roberta "Bobbi" Martinez (of the '04 Fort Sam Houston MS cohort) who has recently been appointed Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Southern Baptist Hospital by the Chief Nursing Executive of Texas Health Resource.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Bobbi, as San Antonio - and Texas - is a burgeoning leader in healthcare, with new hospital facilities opening at an increasing rate.  We will continue to support her in her successful career, as we will surely see her as a Chief Nursing Officer in the not-too-distant future!

NGSU Earns ANSI Accreditation for Certificate Programs

ANSI-CAP logo
NGSU has been named an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited program certificate issuer - accreditation number, 0916.  ANSI launched the new Accreditation Program for Certificate Programs (ANSI-CAP) to accredit organizations that issue education and training certificates to U.S. workers. NGSU received ANSI accreditation for its Homeland Security, Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt and Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt certificate programs and is one of only seven certificate issuers to have received this endorsement. NGSU is the only university nationwide to have received ANSI accreditation for its Lean Six Sigma certificate programs.

In June of 2009, NGSU was selected by ANSI as one of ten national pilot programs to develop a consensus as to what constitutes an "exemplary" certificate program.  NGSU was selected for its role as an accredited higher education institution offering internationally recognized certificates.

ANSI is the voice of U.S. standards and conformity assessment systems.  NGSU is the nation's higher education institution devoted to degrees, certifications and tailored programs for policy development, strategic management and data-driven assessment of quality systems.

Jeff Treiber, Dean, Strategic Learning Partnerships receives Energy Super Star Award
Energy Super Star Award
Town Energy Committee for its recent energy efficient renovations to its headquarters building located in Falmouth, Massachusetts.  "The awards recognized municipal employees, businesses, organizations and residents of Falmouth who have made strides to reduce fossil fuel emissions."

The headquarters building is a three level modified Cape that was recently renovated to include energy efficient HVAC systems with set-back thermostats, ultra high efficiency florescent lighting, Energy Star flat panel monitors, best use of natural lighting, low water usage fixtures, low VOC pains and glue and directly recyclable carpeting.  It earned an "Energy Star Building" rating on September 30, 2009 with support from Cape Light Compact having achieved an energy performance rating of 97 out of 100 as certified by RISE Engineering.  The building was also featured in the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association's (NESEA) annual Green Building Open House on October 3, 2009.

The school's commitments go beyond construction in areas such as:
  • Completing a comprehensive inventory of all greenhouse gas emissions (including emissions from electricity, heating, commuting and air travel) and updating the inventory every other year thereafter.
  • Developing an institutional action plan for becoming climate neutral which includes a target date for achieving climate neutrality, interim targets for goals and actions that will lead to climate neutrality and taking actions to make climate neutrality and sustainability a part of the curriculum and other educational experiences for all students.
  • Adopting an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist and purchasing more than 15% of the institution's electricity consumption from renewable sources.
