Welcome to The National Graduate School's Community E-Newsletter

Greetings!

Hopefully you have enjoyed your summer and are ready for a refreshing fall.  NGS/U is gearing up for it's Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 class launches at sites across the country.  In this issue we would like to express our appreciation to our students and alumni who have shown their dedication to the school as well as their commitment to their sponsoring organizations.  Additionally, we would like to thank the students, alumni and faculty who have graciously contributed their stories and helped make The Benchmark what it is!
10000 Mile club
The low-residency format of The National Graduate School's Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) draws students from across the country to "cluster sites" such as Washington, DC; St. Louis, MO; and Philadelphia, PA. The "10,000 Mile Club" is a name cheerily applied to four students who travel that distance each time they attend a "low residence" class session in St. Louis.  Their commitment demonstrates their belief in the NGS/U program and is a measurable predictor of their own future success. Congratulations to: LTC Alba Villanueva of the U.S. Army National Guard who travels from Austin, TX ; Catherine Martin, Senior Principal Quality Engineer at Raytheon who travels from El Segundo, CA ; CDR M. Andre Billeaudeaux, a Director of Auxiliary Forces for the U.S. Coast Guard who travels from Seattle, WA; and Brian Wolfe, Lifecycle Support Technologist at Boeing who travels from Mesa, AZ.

Brian Wolfe of Boeing said, "For me, the travel component is secondary, I wanted to be engaged in a professional and collaborative environment.  As students, we have the distinct advantage to benefit from the trials and tribulations and nurturing of Dr.Gee and other professors.  Globally, only 1% of those holding advance degrees pursue the PHD/DBA with a resounding 40% of that number not completing their pursuit..  NGS/U's DBA program structure, timeline, overall mentoring and  sincere professorial guidance to me are the key enablers that help a student stay grounded and focused.  Simply put, I believe in the NGS/U DBA program and the knowledge of the NGS/U staff to reach our measurable goal of success - GRADUATION!"

NGS excels with its UTC Academic Partnership Master's programs

Gee and Maser

The National Graduate School of Quality Systems Management (NGS) has created nearly 200 ACE Leaders in its 10+ year relationship with UTC. Due to its unique project-based 16-course curriculum, UTC students used classroom training, combined with practical application coaching, to complete over 61 ACE Projects, and saved their divisions more than $41m.

By 2005, NGS had become a UTC Strategic Learning Partner. This created a curriculum more focused on UTC's ACE program, and supported a more effective linkage between student's projects and UTC's strategic need.

This past spring 2009, NGS held graduations for 65 students within the PWR loop (Canoga Park, Stennis Space Center, Kennedy Space Center, Rockford, West Palm Beach, and Huntsville) and at Farmington, CT.

"The projects exceeded my expectations," said Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne President, Mr. Jim Maser, after meeting with NGS/U President & Founder, Dr. Robert Gee, to review the students' projects and results at PWR Headquarters in Canoga Park, CA.  The national roll-out of the five Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne sites helped towards Mr. Maser's goal of a "one company" way of thinking.

Mr. Maser was the Senior Project Champion for all 22 projects and commended the measurable achievements of NGS/U at Rocketdyne.  He and senior management from all 5 locations validated the results of each of the projects.  Credit goes to the employees and to the local project champions and guiding coalitions.

Continuing the successful partnership with UTC, NGS will launch its seventh Master's program cohort this fall at various locations such as Farmington, Canoga Park, Kennedy Space Center, Stennis Space Center and Rockford in September 2009. Canoga Park will launch its third Master's degree cohort this fall. Next spring, San Diego will launch its second Master's cohort. Many PWR employees have enrolled in the long-awaited Doctor of Business Administration in Los Angeles starting October 2009.
