Welcome to The National Graduate School's Community E-Newsletter
Greetings!
In addition to our many degrees, NGS/U also offers several certificate programs. We offer these certificates as an additional benefit of some of our degree programs. We also offer certificates as independent modules for those who can't attend our full degree programs. From Homeland Security to Practical Finance and of course, Lean Six Sigma. We have even held certificate programs for students in Kosovo and China! Read on to learn how our alumni have used these certificates in their careers! |

NGS/U Offers Certificate Programs as Part of Workforce Training Grant
As part of a 3 year Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund training grant, The National Graduate School will provide the training for the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board's (CIWIB) Cape Area Management Program (CAMP) for companies and organizations on Cape Cod. The first of 6 training sessions began in September 2008 and in June 2009, 30 employees representing 11 local businesses received their certificates of completion for the Cape Area Management Program (CAMP) along with 4 college credits.
Over the course of the grant, the CIWIB hopes to train more than 150 supervisors and managers in the basics of practical management, team work, project management and continuous quality improvement. Each training session is comprised of 64 classroom hours (lecture and discussion) and 8 hours of peer to peer practicum (practice new skills, share best practices, addressing real time problems). CAMP is a cross sector training program targeting management occupations on the Cape and Islands. Industries such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, real-estate, financial services, human services, public administration, construction and the arts can join the program. Graduates earn 4 college credits from the National Graduate School. Read More

NGS/U Offers Practical Finance Certificate for ACE Masters at United Technologies
In support of our long standing Strategic Learning Partner relationship with United Technologies, The National Graduate School was asked to bid on a training session for UTC's continuous improvement experts. These ACE (Achieving Competitive Excellence) facilitators, all company employees, had progressed through the company's internal certification program. What was missing from the short courses they had assembled with various providers was a course which taught these ACE facilitators how to make a business case for their improvements. After being selected over several other schools, NGS prepared and delivered a two day course on site in Farmington, Connecticut at the company's Leadership Center. This training applied the UTC financial principals to the state of the art literature. in a case study approach to this subject. These continuous improvement leaders used public and NGS produced case studies to learn the critical topics of margin, cash flow, inventory turns and NPV/IRR analysis. At the end of each class, students demonstrated their learning to a UTC executive in attendance.
