New England Style Baked BeansIf there's one thing that Bill loves, it's baked beans! And yes, I usually prepare them around the 4th of July, but I don't go to a lot of trouble making them...

Greetings!
Sorry we (or I) didn't get out a July newsletter. It has
been a very busy summer.
We had our annual Gurney family reunion and spent the 4th
of July in North Carolina. Unfortunately, not all of my children could make it.
Hannah and Joshua stayed behind due to work commitments but Jennifer was able
to come. She brought her boyfriend Dave and introduced him to the family. Nice
guy but he's a Yankee's fan...I don't have to tell you that did not go over
well with the family! Jennifer had warned him not to show any weakness or the
Gurneys would eat him alive! Especially Uncle Barry...he can be a lot of work. If
you can deal with Barry, you got it made! Dave did just fine, even though he's
a Yankees fan!
Now we are in August and in a couple of short weeks, we'll
be taking Hannah back to college for her senior year! Wow...time flies but even
more so, we'll have an empty nest again. I must be a bad parent because I enjoy
the empty nest thing! For those of
you sending your first child off to college or even 1st grade, let
me tell you that they will be just fine! For those that will experience the empty
nest syndrome this fall for the first time, let me say this..."come on in, the
water is great!" Seriously, when they leave for college we tell them to do 3 things
in this order: -
Be safe
-
Pay attention to your studies and do your absolute best,
nothing less
-
Have fun
Have a most excellent August everyone! Bill Gurney Gurney's Automotive Repair

Gurney's News
Website launches...
The new web site is finally up and running after a very long
process. I would say it is done
but I want to continue to improve upon it all the time. When you have time please visit gurneys.net and let us know what you think. One feature I'm very happy about is the online forms we've
created for making appointments, getting estimates, and requesting tire quotes.
I think this is a quick and easy way to get your questions answered. We also totally redesigned the symptom checklist sheet so
you can complete it, at your convenience, and submit it to us before you drop
off your car. Our goal is for you to fill this out when you're not rushed and
be as detailed as possible...this, in turn, helps us find the problem quicker and
saves you money. Another great feature on the site it the archives. We've
loaded 6 months of previous newsletters, which include all the good info like
"so that's why" and Charlotte's Corner. We also have a section now dedicated to
Charlotte's Corner... don't know what to cook one night? You can now go to the website and go to
Charlottes Corner and download one of her recipes. There is much much more so please check it out at gurneys.net

So That's Why!
Q: I'm a Gurney customer with a basic question. I saw on the Internet recently that
today's improved auto engines don't need to be warmed up in cold weather &
doing so is just a waste of fuel.
Do you agree & thanx?
A: I am old school and believe that it is still a mechanical engine with
metal parts that expand and contract with temperature. Also, oil still flows better
after it is warmed up a bit in my opinion. Although I am not an engineer, I
cannot imagine that it uses that much fuel in a month to let your car warm up a
couple of minutes before you begin driving. I think of it like this...even if I
sleep inside my house, it takes a couple of minutes for my body and brain to
come up to speed; not to mention if I sleep outside in the winter like most
vehicles do. Hope this helps!
