Summer days are winding down. Somehow it seems like it just started! The young people in our programs have had a good summer, thanks to your support. Funds donated by our community in June have allowed us to take young people on field trips to the zoo, the swimming pool, parks, museums and sporting events. We've been able to provide lunch, dinner and snacks for children who otherwise would have been hungry; and we've been able to keep our Community-based Youth Services open expanded hours so young people have safe places to go when school is closed. I don't think our youth have shifted to think about the coming school year just yet. They're still focused on trips to the pool and ice cream parties -- but at Alternative House, our focus is turning to fall. Basic school supplies are expensive, too expensive for many of the families we serve. They also can be out of reach to the homeless high school students served by the Homeless Youth Initiative. I hope you will once again be generous this fall as we fill our young people's backpacks with the items they'll need in the coming school year. As always...we couldn't do it without you! Judith |
