AH Jobs

As Summer is upon us, you can feel the mood of the programs shift here at Alternative House.  During the school year we try to make sure all of our young people get to class.  Even at the Emergency Shelter for Teenagers, most of our young people make it to school.  Now we're preparing to provide fun, rewarding and enriching activities in the community.  Field trips increase, we're always on the lookout for free tickets to sports events or the movies, and our need for volunteers to act as chaperones increases also.  If you have tickets to donate or a couple of hours to spare to chaperone, please let us know.  We plan to have a safe, rewarding summer here at Alternative House, I hope yours is also.  -- Judith

Homeless Youth Initiative

"Nancy" was brought to the US by her father.  But instead of living as a daughter, she was forced to serve as an indentured servant to her father's new family.  School counselors referred her to our Homeless Youth Initiative after she reported being physically abused by her step-mother.  She was living in an unfinished basement and did not have access to food or privacy.  We were able to find family who opened their home to her and where she was nurtured and valued.  She graduated from high school last June and is now attending community college.

Local companies supporting Alternative House

Springtime is a time that seems to bring out the best of Mother Nature.  With trees sprouting new growth, flowers blooming and new life coming out after a long winter nap.

It is also a time that people seem to blossom with everything else around them.  Here at Alternative House, we get to feel the summer all year around with our volunteers.  We have been fortunate to have people that care enough to volunteer throughout the year.

We have had some new companies like Convergint Technologies, SC & H Group, Maple Leaf Services, and Ernst & Young this year that have provided services and time.

Thank you for your generosity in helping us help homeless and at-risk youth and teens in your community!

Please RSVP as seating is limited. The event lasts one hour.

Also if you would like us to bring an Open Door at the House to you we would be happy to do that for any civic or faith group, business, school, homeowner's association or club.

Please contact Gina Cocomello for more information on any of our Open Door at the House events or to RSVP.

On behalf of Alternative House we would like to thank all of our donors, sponsors and volunteers for your continued support. We couldn't continue to provide our programs and services without you.
