I ONCE WAS BLIND!
Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. (2 Kings 6:17)
When we speak of "sight" we are generally referring to "physical" sight. In essence, life becomes more challenging when we are unable to use our eyes. However, it is also important to realize that "spiritual" sight is important as well. When John Newton wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace," he was referring to spiritual sight when he said in the hymn, "I once was blind, but now I see." It is possible to have 20/20 physical vision, but be unable to see from a spiritual standpoint. A blind man was once asked is there anything worse than being blind. I am told his answer was, "yes, having eyes and cannot see!"
With spiritual sight, you can sometimes visualize things happening even before they happen. I am told that Leonardo Di Vinci saw "flight" a few hundred years before the Wright Brothers took off. George Washington Carver did not "place medicine" in the peanut, but saw something that was already there. There are great rewards in having spiritual insight.
In the passage above, Elisha's servant was concerned that they were in danger because they were surrounded by the Syrian Army. Elisha told the servant not to fear. Elisha prayed to the Lord, that the servant's eyes would be opened and that he would be able to see. God answered his prayer and the Lord opened the eyes of the young man. He was able to see that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire. The servant was no longer afraid.
If we pray, we will be able to develop spiritual sight as well. When trouble comes in our lives we will be able to see that help is always on the way. Things may appear hopeless at first, but our spiritual sight will reveal the way out.
What a wonderful testimony you will have when you can say, "I ONCE WAS BLIND, BUT NOW I SEE."
