HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
I believe it is appropriate to set aside a day to recognize Mothers!  Their role has been ordained by God.  I believe that most Mothers strive with tremendous vigor to be what God has called them to be as Mothers.  It is not an easy task.  The challenges of Motherhood are considerable and seem to be increasing as time goes on.  I know that our Mothers would appreciate some encouragement for their efforts.  If your Mother has passed on, remember her this week in a significant way that you deem appropriate.

Let us pray for our Mothers.  Again I say, "Happy Mothers's Day!

MOTHERS WHO DO ALL THEY CAN!

She has done what she could... (Mark 14:8)

As we celebrate our Mother's this week, I am always amused at some of the "Mama Stories" that I hear people give.  Some of them are pretty funny now although they were not necessarily funny when they happened years ago.  Some comments like, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out," seem very common among our mothers.  However on the other hand, we hear of mothers working two jobs and also cooking, cleaning, washing, and staying up all night with a sick child when the need arises.

Mothers who do all they can are very special.  Of course no one is perfect, and there is no perfect mother.  But a Godly Mother
"watches over the ways of her household...her children rise up and call her blessed.....her husband also praises her (Proverbs 31).

In the passage above, Jesus comments on Mary of Bethany.  She had taken a costly ointment and anointed the head of  Jesus.  There were others present who thought that was a waste of such a valuable substance.  However, Jesus told them to let her alone, for she had done a good thing. In addition, Jesus wanted others to know that she had done what she could.

As I think about a Godly Mother, that statement says a lot.  In the case of Mary, there is no evidence that she was a mother or that her act pertains to Motherhood.  But what she demonstrated, can also be seen in Godly Mothers.  She understood  what she had (an expensive ointment).  She had the opportunity to use what she had (in pouring it on Jesus's head).  And she will be remembered for doing what she could.  In verse 9 Jesus said that her act would be a memorial for her.  Our Mothers did what they could with what they had.  And for that, we remember them this Mother's Day.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
