A BRIGHT LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD!
Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, as when at first He lightly esteemed ........The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. (Isaiah 9:1,2)
Believe it or not, many people become very stressed and depressed at this time of the year. For some, memories of loved ones who have died may be the cause. For others, it may be that they do not have money for gifts. Whatever the reason, we often forget the importance of the Season. It is really supposed to be about Jesus. In a world that is clouded with darkness, Jesus is a Bright Light!
In the passage above, the people of Israel are depressed. The gloom of the Northern Kingdom came because of discipline. However through the Word given to Isaiah, God told the people to have hope because a Deliver would be coming who would fulfill the promises to Abraham and David regarding God's people. His name would be called WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE (verse 6). He would deliver them out of darkness into the marvelous light.
As we see our world filled with crime, hatred, racism, poverty, and the like, we should remember that there is still a Wonderful, Counselor who came to bring peace and good will on earth. As Christians, we should lead the way in making sure that the world knows who Jesus is. When we realize who Jesus is, we can face tomorrow with hope and optimism. There is no room for depression when we allow Jesus to be the Lord of our lives. Our sadness should become gladness.
I pray that each of you will have a very Merry Christmas this year. Feel free to engage in traditions that are positive and meaningful. Above all, keep Jesus in your life. He truly is the reason for the season. He is a BRIGHT LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD!
