An Anniversary Celebration
And it shall be, when you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it, that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground, which you shall bring from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and put it in a basket and go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide.....So you shall rejoice in every good thing which the Lord your God has given to you and your house, you and the Levite and the stranger who is among you. (Deuteronomy 26:1,2,11)
I am continually amazed and grateful to the Lord as I think about how He has blessed the Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church for the past 67 years. Like the people of Israel, our members have a rich history that was overseen by God every step of the way. Like the children of Israel, we are to gather together the first and the best of our fruits while giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness. Just as God has blessed us in the past, we know that He will continue to bless us in the future.
As members of FWMBC we are a part of history past; history present; and a future history that is developing as we speak.
In the passage above, the Israelites were about to enter the land of promise and they were instructed what they were to do each and every year from then on. When the harvest was great they were to remember their history because it had brought them to that place. How could they forget God bringing them out of Egyptian bondage? When the harvest was not so good they were to remind themselves that God was still taking care of them during those times as well.
As members of FWMBC we love God, and we love one another. We remember those special persons who have gone on before us. We will continue the journey that our founding members started 67 years ago. Our mission continues. As it was YESTERDAY; it is the same TODAY; and with God's grace it will be the same for ourselves and our children TOMORROW. That is, to tell the GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST!
