TIME FOR GIVING THANKS!
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil........giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:15, 20)
Recently I celebrated another birthday. It is clear to me that more time is behind me than is in front of me. I began to think about all of the time I have wasted. Most of you can say the same thing. U.S. News and World Report did a survey of 6,000 people in 1988. They found that the average American will spend during their lifetimes:
1) 6 months sitting a stop lights
2) 8 months opening junk mail
3) 1 year looking for misplaced objects
4) 2 years UNSUCCESSFULLY returning phone calls
5) 4 years doing house work
6) 5 years waiting in line
and 7) 6 years eating.
Now I know that eating is not really wasting time, however if you consider how many hours are contained in 6 years, it makes you think about re-evaluating your eating habits.
Because "time" is really a gift from God, it is important that we use it wisely. We should take time to work; and time to abide with God; and to fellowship with others; and to nurture and love our family. But we should also take time to give "Thanks."
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year, let us remember why we have reason to be thankful. We are thankful because God gave us life; time; and most of all, Jesus Christ. We make time for a lot of things. Make sure that we also take time for "GIVING THANKS."
