WHO AND/OR WHAT DO YOU TRUST?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5,6)
Isn't it funny how we will go and sit on a chair that we have never seen before and "trust" that it will hold us. When we travel on an airplane we trust the pilot whom we have never met or know anything about. We get on elevators assuming that they are capable of carrying our bodies to various floors in a building. Yet, we sometimes have a difficult time trusting God with our future. Some people trust their money. I once heard a man say, "If I had enough money, I would not need anything else." Of course, we know that there are many things that money cannot buy; love, peace, and happiness to name a few.
In the game "Who Do You Trust," players choose someone to stand behind them and catch them as they fall backwards. They will generally choose someone that they believe "can" catch them; and who also "will" catch them. They realize that if either of those two elements are missing, they will fall and hurt themselves.
In the passage above, we are reminded by Solomon that we can trust the Lord to show us the way. But our trust must be thorough and complete. It must be with all our hearts. This means that our entire body weight will be "Leaning" on the Lord. No matter how much knowledge and experience we have in life, the Lord's wisdom takes precedence over our understanding. His ways are greater than our ways. When we acknowledge God, we are "Looking" for Him in His omnipresence. We want Him around and we want His input in our situations. And of course we need to be ready to "Listen" to His directions for our lives. In directing our paths, He is really directing us in His path for us. If we are not willing to go in the direction that He sets for us, we are not trusting Him to know what is best. We are to "LEAN ON, LOOK FOR, AND LISTEN TO" the Lord in every situation.
Take it from me, God cares about every aspect of our lives. Nothing is too small for Him to address. Every minute of the day He is available to us for guidance. Remember however that God's path is not the path we would always want to take. God's idea of a straight path is not necessarily our idea of a straight path. So the final element of trusting God is being prepared to go wherever He is taking us.
Well who do you trust, and what do you trust in? If you said the Lord and His Love for us, you are right. For surely, if you can trust the chair that you sit in at the restaurant (without ever testing it), you can trust in the Lord. He not only can, but He will, keep you from falling. Hallelujah!
