FWMBC Members and Friends,
Last week we celebrated Juneteenth.  It represented the day that Blacks in the South were given the news of "FREEDOM" from slavery via the Emancipation Proclamation.  Next week we will celebrate Independence Day (4th of July), which represents "FREEDOM" in our Country's separation from Britain.  Truly, freedom is to be celebrated, desired, and cherished.  In fact you don't realize how precious freedom is, unless you have been without it.

Christians know that the greatest freedom of all, is "FREEDOM" from the bondage of sin.  It is Jesus Christ who set us free when He died in propitiation for our sins on Calvary 2000 years ago.  I am thankful for all of my freedoms.  But of course, I am most thankful for the freedom granted to me by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Please pray for our sick and shut-in members.

 WHY THE WORD BECAME FLESH!

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.  (John 1:14)

One reason that I send this devotional out each week is to encourage my readers.  In some cases, it may teach, and in other cases it may just remind you of the comfort that God's Word can give.

Today's passage is not universally interpreted the same way by many who consider themselves Christians.  Some have a hard time accepting Jesus as God.  However there is no doubt in my mind that Jesus was God, in human form.

Why would God wrap Himself in human flesh and come to earth?  Well, consider some of the following reasons:

1.  God wanted to reveal Himself to us in a way that we could more clearly understand.  The Bible says that to know about the Father, you must see the Son (John 14:7-11)

2.  God wanted Jesus to be an example for us. (1 Peter 2:21)

3.  To fulfill prophesy.  Throughout Old Testament writings the Bible spoke of the coming Messiah.  (Micah 5:2 being one).

4.  To destroy the works of the Devil.  (1 John 3:8)

5.  To be a sympathetic High Priest. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

6.  To Judge (5:22, 27)

7.  To provide the Sacrifice for our Sins......God as Spirit cannot die.  Jesus had to die in propitiation for our sins.  For god so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

In essence "The Word Became Flesh For Me!"  He came to save me.  He came to be an example for me.  He came to help fight my battles, and He came to prepare a place for me after I leave here.

Why did the Word Become Flesh?  He did it for me.  For that reason, I am truly grateful.  Can't Nobody Do Me like Jesus!
