So the woman conceived and bore a son. and when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months, but when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it , and laid it in the reeds of the river bank.

Mother's Day is next week and we are reminded of how special mothers are. Many years ago a distinguished member of the faculty of Yale University Divinity School, Paul Homer, was asked by a student why he believed in God? His response was, "because my mother told me." All of the Seminary training in the world cannot instill the faith that a Mama can instill in a child while singing "Jesus Loves Me This I Know."
Some of our Mothers have passed on to be with the Lord. We remember them with great love and affection. Some of our Mothers are elderly. Our love for them is manifested in our care for their needs. And then there are young Mothers who have great challenges in their efforts to fulfill their obligations to their husbands, children, employers, and to God. She will usually get up earlier than everyone else in the family; have a moment of prayer; prepare breakfast; get the kids up; fix their lunches; get dressed; take the kids to school; and sing "this is the day the Lord has made" while driving to work.
By the afternoon, her face reflects the tiredness of doing her best to be all things to all people. In addition, she serves in an average of two Church ministries.
In the passage above, the birth Mother of Moses loved him enough to hide him from danger. It probably broke her heart to steer him down the river but she could not bear to have him killed by Pharaoh's men. His adopted Mother, Pharaohs' daughter, accepted Moses, taught him, clothed him, loved him, and gave him the best she had to offer. GOD DID THE REST!
We salute all Godly Mothers. I now know Jesus for myself. But until I met Him, I still believed in Him, "BECAUSE MY MOTHER TOLD ME!"
