REMEMBER, HE GOT UP!
He is not here, but is RISEN! REMEMBER how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day RISE again. And they REMEMBERED His words. (Emphasis added)
Luke 24: 6-8
What do you think is so important about Easter? Is it about Easter eggs, or about Bunny rabbits, or even getting to church? There is nothing inherently wrong with any of those things. But for me to summarize in one short sentence what Easter is really all about, I would say it is that we REMEMBER, HE GOT UP! Jesus rose from the dead.
In the city of my birth, my grandfather bought some cemetery plots for our family. When I go to my hometown I often pass by the sight of those graves. As of the date of this writing, my father, grandfather, grandmother, and two uncles are buried there. I feel comfortable believing that they are with the Lord in Spirit even though I view their grave markers where their earthly bodies were buried. I can believe that their Spirit's are with the Lord, because I believe that Jesus Christ got up 2,000 years ago.
T.S. Elliot once said, "It's not death that we fear, but something beyond death. In the Bible, Job asked the question, if a man die, will he live again? The Bible also tells us that it is appointed once for man to die, and then the judgment. In essence, we know that we will die one day. Our concern should be, what will happen after that? The answer for those of us who believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior, is simple. Because Jesus got up, we will get up as well.
In the passage above, the angels reminded the women that Jesus had actually predicted all that had happened to Him. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the central fact of Christian History. When I visit the graves of my family, I remember the good times we had during our times together. But I also have the confidence that I will see them again. And I believe that because I remember, "HE GOT UP!" To me, that is why Easter (Resurrection Sunday) is so important! Hallelujah!
