ITS OKAY TO BE SINGLE!
His disciples said to Him, "if such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not marry." But He said to them, "All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given. (Matthew 19:10, 11)
In the passage above, Jesus is explaining why Moses permitted husbands to divorce their wives. He was not saying that Marriage was inappropriate, but He was addressing the issue of Divorce and under what circumstances it was permitted. However, it is also inferred that marriage is not necessary for one to live the glorious life that God intends for his people to have. There are circumstances where being single is not only OK, it is also recommended.
In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul also seemed to be recommending single living for several reasons. In 1 Cor. 7:32, Paul suggest that being Single allows you to give your undivided attention to the Lord, but being married divides your attention between God and your spouse. Paul also felt that marriage was not working as it was originally intended by God. That concern was also reiterated by the Disciples when they made the assertion, "it is better not to marry." And of course, Paul gave more credibility to the eternal state than the temporary state.
Before you discord the notion of marriage altogether, understand that God's creation of the marriage relationship as outlined in Genesis is still applicable today. And it is great when two people submit to the Word of God and to each other. I am just pointing out that according to the Bible, it is also OK to be Single.
Consider the following;
1. Being single means you have more time for God.
2. Being single does not mean that you are undesirable, it means you are selective. 3. Being single and living Holy makes you an excellent witness, and example for the Lord. 4. Being single means that you are avoiding the "all too common" problem of being unevenly yoked. 5. Being single gives you more time to pursue interest that you really want to do. 6. Being single makes it easier for you to please the Lord because you don't have to divide your attention with a spouse that may not want to agree with you about the Lord's calling.
In essence, marriage can be great, but so can singleness be great. Just remember, living Godly is a must, no matter what state you may be in. For those of you who are single and like it, great, because "ITS OK TO BE SINGLE!"
