And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship was returning.....(Acts 8:27).....And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." (Acts 8:37)
This month we celebrated Black History. I have attempted to highlight the fact that Black people in the Bible, as well as Black Christians in modern times, were used by God in various ways. In today's message, we read about the Ethiopian eunuch. He was a Black man who held a position of great authority in a secular position, while still exhibiting his trust in God by going to the Temple to worship. In his desire to know the "Word of God" better, he asked Phillip (who had a successful preaching ministry), to explain to him the meaning of the passage found in Isaiah 53:7,8. After Phillip preached Jesus to him, the Ethiopian eunuch saw a body of water and asked what would hinder him from being baptized? Phillip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. The Ethiopian eunuch answered and said, "I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD."
Truly we are grateful that God has blessed us to be able to have good jobs, while also understanding our need for Jesus Christ in our lives. We are represented by teachers; lawyers; business owners; doctors; accountants; musicians; pharmacists; realtors; politicians; and many other vocations that are valuable to society. Yet no matter how much we accomplish in the secular world, there is nothing more important than realizing who Jesus Christ is in our lives. Our culture has importance, and so does our ethnicity. But the most important thing of all is to be able to say as the Ethiopian eunuch said: "I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD."
