Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused...
(Numbers 11:1)
The late Reverend Paul Jones was well known for singing the song, "I won't complain." It's meaning was clear and appropriate then, as it is now. When we think of all that God has done for us, we really have no reason to complain.
Of course we all have trials and tribulations in life. Even when we try to do right, trouble is still always around. Perhaps the car breaks down when we have very little money to have it repaired. Or maybe we lose our job just when things begin to look brighter for us. Or the doctor gives us a troubling diagnosis. Situations like these can make you tired, depressed, and distraught.
What seems even worse is that you have been trying to serve the Lord. You could see it if you were outside the church and not trying to live appropriately. But your life just seems to attract problems. Perhaps you ask, "don't I have a right to complain?" In the passage above, God was displeased at hearing the complaints of the Israelites.
In that passage, the Israelites complained and later Moses complained (verses 11-15). The difference was however, that the people complained to one another. Moses on the other hand, prayed to God for answers and deliverance. Moses knew that God could solve any problem while the people could only intensify their discontent. Many of us are good at complaining to each other. We need to learn to take our problems to the One who can do something about them.
Remember that nothing is too hard for God to resolve. He has brought us from a mighty long way and I don't believe He will leave us nor forsake us now. He may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time. So no matter what you are facing, just take it to the Lord in prayer and trust Him to work it out. As for me, like the song says: "I WON'T COMPLAIN!"
