And he said to Him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" (John 2:10)
How many times have you heard a senior citizen refer to the good old days when talking about the past. It seems that the older we get, the better those days appear to have been. I believe that we all desire to retain a part of our lives that was very significant and very special.
As Christians, we know that our lives really changed for the better when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. In fact there is the good life "before" Jesus; and the good life "after" Jesus. Even though the good life before Jesus was pretty good, the good life after Jesus is better!
In the passage above, the celebration at the wedding in Cana was going well until the host ran out of wine. Mary approached Jesus and told Him, "they have no wine." She knew that Jesus could resolve any situation. Jesus told the servants to fill six waterpots with water and take some to the master of the feast. When the master of the feast tasted it, he made the statement, "You have kept the good wine until now." Not only had Jesus turned water into wine, but the wine He made was "better."
In our lives, things may be going fine until trouble unexpectedly arises. It is at that point that you begin to realize the value of someone who can go to Jesus for you. Jesus will work for you when you realize that He is the only one who can fill your need. He works in mysterious ways even when it does not make much sense to you. Who would have believed that water could be turned into wine?
Since I met Jesus, I can truly say that the "real" good old days really did not start until I accepted Him for myself. And now that I have, I understand that "THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"
