AN OPEN LINE!
But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him. (Psalm 4:3)
Have you ever called someone on the telephone and got a busy signal? You tried the number several times and yet you still could not get through? I am sure that it must have frustrated you. If you were calling a business, you probably wondered why it did not have more lines available. All you wanted was one "open line."
Recently I called a company regarding one of my accounts and the first voice that I heard was a recorded message. It gave me multiple choices to decide from. If I was calling about a new account I should push #1. If I wanted to pay a bill I should push #2. It went on and on with about 7 numbers. However none of the options addressed my problem. I decided to push the #0 in order to speak to a customer service representative. The recording for that choice told me to hold. While I was holding I was continuously getting a recorded message about other ways to handle my business. For instance, I could go online to their website; or I could just travel to a certain address and speak to someone at their offices. After holding about 28 minutes I was finally able to speak to someone over the phone. By that time, I had almost forgotten why I called.
While I had been waiting, I thought about the fact that I could call on God at any time and He would have an "open line." In Psalm 4, David tells us that we can place our confidence in God because he will listen when we call on Him. Not only that, we don't have to listen to a recording or be sidetracked when we need him right away. Our prayers will be heard 24 hours a day. We know that He never slumbers nor sleeps. David knew that God would not only hear him, but would answer him as well. Perhaps you think that God will not hear you because you have fallen short of his standards. But if you have trusted God for salvation, He has forgiven you and will listen to you. You have an "open line."
The business that I called only had a certain number of lines. On days with a large number of calls the waiting time to get through was substantial. The limited number of lines available accounted for the long wait...But with God, there is no waiting time because He has a line reserved just for you and "IT IS ALWAYS OPEN." Why don't you try calling it sometimes, you will see what I mean!
