Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:18, 19)
This Sunday we will celebrate our annual "Women In Red" Service at the 11:00am hour. The purpose of the Service is of course to worship God in Spirit and in Truth. However, it also includes focusing on the fact that Jesus shed His Blood for mankind on Calvary. Some Christians no longer emphasize the importance of the Blood. Obviously we mention the importance of Christ. We talk about His life as he walked among the Disciples. We even talk about the Cross on Calvary. But we just don't talk about the Blood.
As Christians, we can be thankful that Jesus Christ came to earth to "redeem" us. The word "redeem" literally means to liberate by the payment of a ransom. How much ransom would you pay to redeem one of your loved ones? One thousand dollars? Twenty thousand dollars? In the passage above Peter says that things like silver or gold are corruptible. He implies that we are worth much more than corruptible things to our Heavenly Father. In order for God to redeem us He gave His only begotten Son. Jesus Christ in turn shed His Blood to pay the ransom for our freedom. In other words, we came at a high price.
If it were not for the blood, our sins would still be separating us from God. However, "IT WAS THE BLOOD" that cleansed us and washed all of our sins away. We were under a curse, but Jesus bore that curse and provided us with a new life in Christ.
It is true, we always need to talk (in general) about our Lord, Jesus Christ, and His righteousness. And we thank God for the Holy Spirit Who is our Helper. But let us remember, when it comes to our redemption, IT WAS THE BLOOD! HALLELUJAH!
