THE RACE IS NOT TO THE SWIFT, BUT THE ONE WHO ENDURES UNTIL THE END!
And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10:22)
Most of you are familiar with the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. Although the rabbit was able to run much faster than the turtle he lost the race. The rabbit's overconfidence was no match for the dedication and endurance of the turtle.
We can learn from that story. Life has many ups and downs. In the passage above, Jesus prepares His Disciples for persecution. The Disciples were to realize, just as we should, that each stage of life would hold new challenges.
Whether you are in your "tempting 20's;" or your "troublesome 30's;" or your "forceful 40's;" or perhaps your "fleeting 50's;" or your "serene 60's;" or you are blessed to be in your "settling 70's," you must continue to run your race until you cross the finish line.
Young people should realize that the race is long, and is just beginning for them. It is important to have the right attitude early in the race so that they will learn how to pace themselves. Middle aged people may be coasting now, but there are still some more twist and turns in the road. Seniors should remember that it is not over until it is over. They need to finish the race strong.
My father-in-law would say, "give out-but don't give up!" No matter what you may be going through, hang in there. Remember, the ones who endure until the end, will be saved! Hallelujah
