FWMBC Members and Friends,
This coming Sunday is commonly celebrated as Valentine's Day.  At FWMBC we will give married couples the opportunity to renew their vows at the 11:00 am service. The idea came from our Marriage Ministry.  When it was first announced I could detect some hesitation on the part of a few individuals (mostly husbands).  However the list has been growing and I believe we will have a considerable number of couples who want to say, they would do it all over again.  What a blessing.  With many polls saying statistically that over 50% of marriages eventually end up in divorce court, we are thankful to have the opportunity to present a different picture.  Yes, Gladys and I plan to participate.  I hope many more of you will join us.  In any event, let your sweetheart know that he/she is special on Sunday. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

 KEEP MARCHING!

You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once.  This you shall do six days.  And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark.  But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priest shall blow the trumpets.  It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat... (Joshua 6:3-5)

In a letter dated March 25, 1965, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about being tired from a march that started in Selma, Alabama and ended in Montgomery.  Here are his words: "Our bodies are tired and our feet are somewhat sore, but today as I stand before you and think back over that great march, I can say as Sister Pollard said, a seventy-year-old Negro woman who lived in this community during the bus boycott.  One day she was asked while walking if she didn't want a ride and when she answered 'No,' the person said, 'Well, aren't you tired?'  And with ungrammatical profundity, she said, 'My feets is tired, but my soul is rested."

What a great testimony!  Sister Pollard realized that some causes require that we leave our comfort zones because of the importance of the mission.  As we celebrate Black History Month, we have much to celebrate.  The sacrifices of Dr. King, Sister Pollard, and others have made it possible for many of us today to enjoy freedoms that were once denied us.  I am sure that our current President Barak Obama would agree with this statement.  However, we realize that we still have some marching to do.

In the passage above, The Lord told Joshua to march around the city for six days.  On the seventh day, God gave them the city of Jericho.  As we often say, "the walls came tumbling down!"   Some walls have historically been difficult to bring down.  But as Christians, we believe that God will march with us as we continue to seek freedom and justice for all.

Perhaps you are facing some high walls in your life right now.  Don't give up.  Like Sister Pollard, your feet may be tired.  But remember, with God on your side, your soul can be rested.  KEEP MARCHING!
