Many of you heard this past week about the "distracted pilots" that overshot their destination by 150 miles.  It makes those of us with some anxiety about flying want to take the train.  The point is, distraction will make us miss the mark, and can have serious consequences.   There are many things going on today that can distract us if we let them.  I hope that all of us will remain focused on "matters" which are really important, and on "Who" is really important.  The "Who" is God!  The "matters" are those things which are pleasing to Him!  If we can do that, we won't overshoot "OUR" destinations!

Please keep our sick and shut-in members in prayer.

 UNITY IS GOOD!

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1)

It is election time again and the City of Houston has several key positions to be filled.  One of those offices is for Mayor.  Although there are 7 candidates running, it appears that 4 of those candidates are major front-runners.  Of those 4, 2 of the candidates are being heavily supported in the Black community.  One of the candidates is Black, and the other candidate is White.  There has developed a deep division in the Black community as a result.  It is a good thing that Blacks in Houston realize that we are important to the outcome of the election.  We should take serious our right to vote and exercise it with zealousness.  It is "not" a good thing however that the division has become so prominent.  Unfortunately, relationships in a community that once was very unified have become strained.  This can only be destructive in the long run if it is not handled appropriately.

In the passage above, David explains the positive side of unity.  Even though he had many problems with his family (wives, children), he understood that having unity is both "good" and "pleasant!" He wanted us to know that harmony was precious as well as refreshing.  On the other hand, he knew that disunity was not good, and was not pleasant.

We have a right to be passionate about what we believe, but we should never forget that together we stand, and divided we fall.  After the election is over, I hope that we can reclaim the unity that has marked our community for so many years.  To do so would be both "good", and "pleasant."
