FWMBC Members and Friends,
It is almost time for our youth to go back to school.  I know that the students are really excited.  We know that the cost of school supplies and other items such as back-packs, etc. can be expensive.  We are again honored to have Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, State Representative Harold Dutton, Council Member Jarvis Johnson, Fiesta, Robey Funeral Home, AfterCare Ambulance Service, KWWJ 1360 AM, Endurance Gospel Singers, ATT Communications, and others to join us in hosting the 2009 Back To School Health Fair at our Multipurpose Center.  Besides school supplies, there will be food, games, and prizes.  Most of all, there will be some dedicated Health Professionals present to conduct Blood pressure checks, Diabetes Testing, Teeth Screening, etc. Children must have their parents present.  It will take place this Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.  For further information contact Marsha at (713) 675-5111.  And remember, keep praying for our sick and shut in.

IF YOU ONLY BELIEVE!

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them." (Numbers 13:2)

During these difficult economic times all of us have seen our bank accounts dwindle.  The doom and gloom naysayers are beginning to become more vocal.  Townhall meetings are becoming places where you can try to out-shout the other person.  Yet we must not forget that God is still on the throne.  He has promised to take care of his people.  Sometimes we have a difficult time believing that fact when we have lost our jobs and the car note is due.  But if God said it, I believe it, and that settles it.  In fact if God said it, that settles it, whether I believe it or not.
In the passage above God specifically tells Moses that He is "GIVING" the land of Canaan to the children of Israel.  He is sending the 12 spies out so they can see for themselves what they will soon receive.  Ten of the spies came back agreeing that the land flowed with milk and honey, but doubting that they could take it because of the "GIANTS" in the land.  They saw themselves as "grasshoppers" when compared to the descendants of Anak.  Only Caleb and Joshua believed God and essentially said, "let's go for it!" However because of the 10 who did not believe God, the children of Israel would wander in the wilderness for 40 years.

The main difference between people is not determined by the set of facts that they face, but the interpretation that they give to those facts.  When the gas gage indicator is in the middle, do you say that the tank is half-full, or half-empty.  Are you a positive or a negative person?  Some people see only the problems in a situation.  Any hindrance is looked at as a "giant" that should be avoided at all cost.  However, some people see the possibilities in every situation.  They have a sense of mission.  They believe that God will take care of them if they stand on His promises.  They believe Him.  Are you facing any giants today in your life?  Perhaps your giant is a financial crisis; or perhaps an addiction; or maybe health problems.  Is there anything too hard for God?  I wonder how quickly our economy could recover if everyone only believed?  My assumption is that it would not be very long.  What do you think?  Your answer may indicate whether you are a positive person like Caleb and Joshua, or a negative person like the other 10 spies!
