FWMBC Members and Friends,
The Fifth Ward Church family extends love and sympathy to all of you who have lost loved ones during the past several weeks and months.  We share your grief and will pray for your strength.  Our bulletins on Sundays usually name the individuals and their families.  We also want those of you who are experiencing pain from illness to know that we are constantly praying for you as well.  We also use the Sunday bulletins to list our sick and shut in members.  If you would like for us to add the name of someone to that list, please contact my secretary, Marsha, at (713) 675-5111.    May God bless you and keep you.

HOW OLD IS TOO OLD?

When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites---After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. (Acts 7:23, 30)

This year my class will celebrate its 60th birthday celebration.  Most of us will be 60 years old by the time we meet.  When I was 20 years old, a person 60 years of age seemed to be old.  However, now that I have arrived, I have a different perspective.  Although some of my classmates have retired from their jobs, and others are contemplating retirement in the next few years, I believe that there is still work to do in the Kingdom of God for us.  My latest edition of AARP Magazine contained an article entitled "Wisdom of the Elders."  It highlights the contributions of 50-plus individuals who draw upon their "wisdom-from years of learning, living, and giving-to dramatically impact the lives of others."

In the Bible passage above, Moses is 80 years old when God appears to him and gives him the assignment to return to Egypt.  Moses will be the leader of the Israelites as they are delivered from bondage.  What an immense task for someone at that age.  However it demonstrates that God is not as concerned about your age as he is about your obedience.

All of us should remember that we are never too old to serve God and bless His people.  I believe we are our brothers' and sisters' keeper.  I've heard people say that "nothing gets old but clothes!"  I won't go that far, but I will say that even old clothes will come back in style if you wear them long enough (smile).  How old is too old?  When God says so!
