FWMBC Members and Friends,
For me it seems as if February has raced by. Our Black History Program this past Sunday was great. We thank Sis. Bryant and all of those who worked so hard to make it a success. Here are more excerpts from some of your answers to the question of "whether or not Christians should celebrate Black History Month?"
I am a "Baby Boomer" ... I felt the pain and anguish of African Americans, I just did not understand why. I believe that African Americans should celebrate more than a month of Black History... Our younger generation should understand why education is necessary and why it is so important to study and celebrate the life and death of Black Americans that fought many stumbling blocks through "blood, sweat, and tears."
Another reader wrote: I was just sharing with my girls about black history month... A lot of black folks invented so many things and made so many contributions... I explained to them that is why we have to go online and go to the library to know our history, and what we have acomplished through our place in this world. If you know your history and know the struggles people before us made, you can carry it with you each and every day.
Thank all of you for your interest and comments. Continue to pray for our sick and shut in. Each Sunday we give a report at the announcement period of how God is still blessing and healing.

THE GOLDEN RULE
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
(Matthew 7:12)
This passage is commonly stated: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto You!" I thought about it this past week because I came in contact with two different individuals with completely different attitudes. I did not know either of them but I had to transact business with the companies that they represented. One of them was extremely pleasant and helpful. I told her that she had been such a blessing in the way she responded to my concerns. She was very appreciative and said that in her 2 and 1/2 years of working there, no one had complimented her that way. The other person who worked at a different company was somewhat rude. Although I obtained the information that I requested, I felt negative about the experience.
In the passage above Jesus is preaching the Sermon on the Mount. He is explaining what will be expected from those who will be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven. He is saying that if we know how we would like to be treated in a particular situation, we should make it a point to treat others the same way. Just think how wonderful our world would be if we all treated each other with respect, love, and generosity. Now of course this passage presumes that we won't have people who desire to be treated badly. But true Christians should not fall into that category. People who love God and love one another also love themselves and desire the blessings that life has to give. Do you practice the "Golden Rule?"
As you come in contact with others today, just ask yourself, am I treating this other person the way I want to be treated? If you are, you are a good candidate for the Kingdom of Heaven! |
