The evening of September 19, 2012, was as lovely as any I've seen in Camden: Clear blue skies and a warm setting sun bathed all those who gathered in the office and on the deck overlooking the Megunticook Stream that runs under the Knox Mill, the home of the Fund's new Camden office. We were so glad to see many friends - old and new - and celebrate the expansion of the Fund's physical presence to another region of Maine. Many thanks to all of the volunteers, board and staff who helped to make it such a special evening. Thanks, too, to the representatives of grantee organizations, who brought even more meaning to our time together, sharing stories and information about how they help women and girls in the midcoast and across Maine with the Fund's support. And of course, you make that possible. The Fund will soon provide some very valuable technical assistance to our grantees in the form of capacity-building training: In collaboration with Maine Initiatives, we will offer a series of Workshops on Planned Giving to our grantees at a discounted cost. This series of four sessions will begin in November and run through May. Any grantee of Maine Women's Fund or the Maine Initiatives can participate by having a staff and/or board member attend and learn how to build long-term sustainability through increased endowment funds. Click here to learn more and register. We're also excited to engage our community throughout the entire state of Maine in a needs assessment before we decide on grants in 2013. If you are interested in helping the Fund gain a greater understanding of the needs of women and girls in your area of the state, let us know by clicking here. Broad participation from across Maine will mean the Fund has a clearer picture to drive our investment decisions. Thank you, again, for all you do to support women and girls in Maine. A role model for women in Maine and beyond,
was the first female pilot for Portland Harbor and the first woman to join the elite Portland Marine Society.
"When I first became a pilot my son was a month and a half old, so I was still nursing. But I was just starting, I was the only woman doing this. I had to make sure it look seamless." Listen to the entire interview with Clark recorded by Samantha Brown at Salt Institute for Documentary Studies . |
