Seeking a Bold, Dynamic Leader for the Maine Women's Fund

The Fund is seeking a CEO who is passionate about investing in the power of women and the dreams of girls and who will work with the Board to fulfill the Fund's mission.

Dear ,

Sonya Tomlinson, our Office and Grants Manager, announced, "I'm calling this month 'NO-vember'!"  She committed to not putting anything new on her plate - just aligning her energy in the places where she can best serve herself and others. Sonya is saying an emphatic "YES" to the places of alignment. When she shared her plan at the Portland Women's Leadership Series focused on 'Energy,' it was an instant hit. Women left the event wishing each other "Happy NO-vember!"

Organizations, like people, thrive best when there is a clear alignment of energy with authentic purpose. After the difficult "no" conversations, there is the manifestation of the "yes" conversations. That's where organizations experience excitement. At the Maine Women's Fund, that energetic, fun and strategic alignment manifests itself when we focus on what we do best: grantmaking and philanthropic leadership.

We are excited to announce nine new grantees from two initiatives that occurred last month. The Splash micro grants event, an innovation of our Midcoast Regional Advisory Council, was held at Lincoln Street Center in Rockland. Four grants, out of twenty-eight applications, were funded through an interactive, community-based process. The Girls' Grantmaking Initiative, in its second year, brought together a learning community of thirty girls and eight philanthropists to review seventeen grant proposals and award five grants. The girls came to the event with a lot of energy and excitement about making a difference in their communities. They left committed philanthropists with the knowledge and skills to leverage their energy and power in the world.

We are also seeking to attract energetic, fun and strategic alignments in other areas - please keep circulating, near and far, our CEO posting for a bold, dynamic new leader for the Maine Women's Fund.

Happy NO-vember! To what will you be saying an emphatic "Yes"?

Best,

Cathy

GGIGirls Award $5,000 in Social Change Grants

GGIThe Maine Women's Fund teamed up with  Bangor Savings Bank Foundation to award $5,000 in social change grants to five girls' programs promoting lasting social change in Maine.

"These five grants are unique because the decisions were made by a group of Maine high school-aged girls about programs designed to support girls," said Sonya Tomlinson, Grant Manager, Maine Women's Fund. "Normally, the grant proposals are reviewed by the public at large. This initiative put the decision making purely in the hands of 30 girls who, in the process, came away from a day of training with a solid understanding of the elements of successful grantmaking." Bangor and Midcoast Women's Leadership Series on Energy!

WLS Logo
As humans, we are multidimensional (athletes, artists, and analysts; parents, partners and presidents). More often than not, we find ourselves creating artificial boundaries between our various roles - work and play, work and family, work and self. Yet these boundaries can isolate our work life from the tasks that bring us joy and fuel us. As employees and leaders, we are recognizing the interconnections between our health, physical environment and productivity. In this session, we'll discuss the energy and unity we feel when aligning the things that bring us joy, our strengths and skills and the expectations of others and how that impacts our success and leadership. These sessions are free and open to the public. Please RSVP below or by calling 207-774-5513.

November 3 at the Bangor Public Library from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

November 8 at Amalfi on the Water, Rockland from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Attendees are welcome to arrive at 5:15 for networking and enjoy tapas from the Amalfi menu.
