Dear ,
When you think about a transition in your life - a birth, a new job, a gain or loss of a relationship- think about the new things you tried during that time. You probably learned that you couldn't get to a new place without trying some things differently - and sometimes that meant leaving old ways of being behind. You experimented.
Experimentation is not always easy for individuals or organizations. We are challenged when it is time to change. Sometime we resist it. Sometime we embrace it. Ultimately, it is the pull of a greater mission that helps us change and stretch toward new places.
Over the years, the Maine Women's Fund has experimented by piloting new initiatives and turning successful pilots into permanent programs in an effort to do one thing exceptionally well: invest in the power of women and the dreams of girls.
We look forward to continuing to "experiment" with new activities, including the Women Standing Together Party with a Purpose and Midcoast Splash event. Developed and launched through the MWF's Midcoast Regional Advisory Council, Splash is a new community-based micro-grantmaking initiative. In our inaugural year, we received 28 grant applications! The Splash event is a terrific experiment on the way to MWF becoming a strong, statewide Fund.
Best,
Cathy

Party with a Purpose
|
On August 11, we held a Party with a Purpose, an exploration of entrepreneur presenters for the Women Standing Together program. It was an experiment to give Women Standing Together (WST) members a more active role in the selection process of presenting entrepreneurs for the 2011-12 WST program - and it was a good excuse to bring these women together at a networking reception! We invited eight entrepreneurs to pitch our WST members to see if they were a good fit for the program. Each entrepreneur had 20 minutes to talk about their business and how they would use their time if chosen to present. We were impressed by what all of these women are bringing to our communities, and we are really excited with the final four who will present in our 2011-12 sessions. Mark your calendars!
