Greetings!

Something interesting emerged at the Women's Leadership Series discussion on Tuesday in Lewiston. After digging into Womenomics and having a great discussion, one participant asked, "What's next? What are the action items?"

It is interesting because at the Fund we generally promote action. "To know and not to act," I can hear myself saying, "Is not to know." Sometimes, however, reflection is more important than acting. But creating space for awareness (of both our internal and external circumstances) to emerge in our fast paced world can feel like an alien task. How often do you settle into a community and give yourself permission to simply be? Maybe community isn't your style, and you prefer individual meditation or writing. Do you make time for yourself? How are our actions different when we're more fully aware? I reflected on awareness this morning on Equality Matters, and I am looking forward to another opportunity to be in community with other women during the Womenomics discussion in Bangor today.

I hope as the end of the year approaches, you find time for your own reflection.

With warm regards,
Eli
Making Change Happen

Dress for Success Southern MaineIt's a common conundrum: you need to project a professional image to get a job, but you need a job to afford professional clothing. Paying for a workplace wardrobe is an obstacle that keeps many low-income Maine women from realizing their career potential. Dress for Success Southern Maine is solving that problem one suit at a time. With their help, women are being outfitted free of charge and building confidence in the steps they're taking to join the work force.  The goal is to put women on the path to economic independence: once a woman has the basic tool of an interview suit, says DFSSM Executive Director Susan Kring, she is free to see herself in the role for which she strives and to focus on the skills required to get the job. "If you feel confident, you get the job, you provide for yourself, and it just cycles right around," Kring says. Read full profile.
Midcoast Women's Leadership Series: Womenomics

November 17 from 12 - 1:30 pm
Rockland Library, 80 Union Street, Rockland

Described as a mega-trend, Womenomics refers to the powerful collision of two simple realities. Women are demanding new rules of engagement at the very moment they have become the hot commodity in today's workplace. It's about businesses and women recognizing the power and position women hold in the marketplace. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP: thewomen@mainewomensfund.org or 207-774-5513.
