Greetings!
Thank you for celebrating our 20th Anniversary during the Weekend to Honor Maine Women and Girls from May 1 - 3, 2009.

The crowds came out in great numbers for our Friday night reception and Dux Femina Facti: A Woman Is In Charge Art Show at Susan Maasch Fine Art Gallery. The excitement carried into Saturday with lively discussions following the film screening of Who Does She Think She Is? and a healthy dose of music and merriment during Brew Girls. The weekend ended with a lovely celebration brunch where we gathered to honor the Fund's Founding Mothers and 2008-09 Award Recipients.

For 20 years, we have continued to stay true to our founding mothers' principles: We are a group of women who share a common passion for investing in the power of women and the dreams of girls; a group of women who know that by aggregating our resources, we can be a stronger resource and catalyst for social change. It is with this commitment that we look forward to another 20 years of creating long-lasting positive change for Maine women and girls.

Many thanks to our lead sponsor, State Farm Insurance, and to all of our sponsors, for their very generous support of this weekend of events.

Thank you,
Eli

Making Change Happen
Nancy Anderson: Following her VisionNancy Anderson
Written by Michaela Cavallaro

Women's empowerment has always been important to Nancy Anderson. She graduated from Harvard Law School in 1976, when just 18% of her classmates were women. As a lobbyist in Massachusetts and then in Maine, Anderson walked State House halls full of influential men. She did her job, and she did it well-but she was firm in her hope that women in generations to come would have an easier time of it than she did. Read Nancy's full profile.

The Maine Women's Fund:
A Bit of History
Written by Michaela Cavallaro

In June of 1988, a visionary group of women gathered at the home of Tracy Booth to create what eventually became the Maine Women's Fund. Inspired by a talk given by Helen Hunt, a member of the board of the National Network of Women's Funds, these Founding Mothers were convinced that they could make a significant difference in the lives of Maine women and girls through philanthropy. Learn more about the Maine Women's Fund history.
Grant Applications

The Maine Women's Fund is accepting applications for our 2008-2009 grantmaking! The deadline is May 26, 2009. To learn more about the funding opportunities, please visit our website.

Part of the grantmaking process is a review of each application we receive and that is where we need your help. As a member of the Fund community, we invite you to be part of this exciting process. Each reviewer will read up to four applications and make their recommendations to our board via an electronic survey. The review process begins on June 1st and ends on June 12th, so we will begin assigning applications shortly. If you would like to sign up to be a reviewer or if you have further questions, please email Jessica at [email protected] or call our office at 774-5513. We truly value your input and appreciate your involvement in this process!

If you have questions about the application process, we encourage you to contact Lauren Dietlin at 774-5513 or [email protected].
New Girls' Network Registration

Registration is open for the next New Girls' Network session which begins September 2009 in Augusta, Bangor, Lewiston/Auburn, Midcoast and Portland. Register today!

The New Girls' Network is a leadership community that gives women in their 20s and 30s a chance to build their networks, explore social change and unleash their leadership potential. At the Maine Women's Fund, we believe that in order to develop ourselves as authentic leaders and differentiate ourselves from the "old boys' network," young women must commit to an ongoing practice. As such, the New Girls' Network acts as a catalyst, bringing women together for a ten-month exploration of philanthropy, activism and feminism through stories, reflections and dialogue.
