Winter
Shipment #1

Dear Friend of Fred,

We hope this email finds you healthy, harmonious, and prosperous as we head from Winter towards Spring (according to the calendar - the seasons seem to be doing whatever they feel like).

We're finishing up the pruning in our vineyards, and our cover crops are looking healthy in between the vines. We've recently bottled our 2011 Rose and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the 2010 Zero Manipulation and Barbera. We'll be sure to keep you posted when we release these exciting new wines later this year.

The next shipment of wines will be ready for pickup on Saturday, February 18th, and we ask that you please notify us of any information changes (address, credit card, etc.) by tomorrow, February 16th, so we can get your wines ready for you. We will be processing the card on file on Friday, February 17th.

If you still have your reusable wine tote that we gave out with the last shipment, bring it with you when you pick up this one and we'll give you a free corkscrew or "Eat More..." poster!

Give us a call or reply to this email if you have any questions. (707) 431-7568.

Read more about the wines below, and we'll look forward to hearing from you, or seeing you soon.
Trad Label

Old Vine Jammy Goodness!
2009 Zinfandel, Tradizionale, West Vineyard

This is the kind of wine that really gets us hooked on Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. A traditional, old-vine field-blend, this wine is the classic "raspberry jam" that differentiates the best Dry Creek Valley Zins from all others. Big, but balanced. Fruity, yet elegant. This is a wine that will go with almost any food, but you can also just pull the cork on a bottle and drink it with friends while playing cards or watching a good movie.
The old-vine West Vineyard Zinfandel in this wine was planted in the 1920s during Prohibition. It contains about 3% other red grapes (Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane and some others we're not really sure about) as well as 1% white grapes (Semillon, Palomino and Chasselas). All the vines are harvested at the same time and all the various varieties are cofermented, which produces a smoother, fuller wine than separate fermentations and subsequent blending can give you.

                                                                            The Big, Bold, Bear Blend!

Petite Sirah label 2009 Petite Sirah, Dry Creek Valley

Wine Notes:

Petite Sirah is a grape not widely grown outside of California, and could be considered as much of an "American grape" as Zinfandel. It has more often been used as a blending grape to enhance the color, tannins and structure of other red varietals, since by itself we usually find Petite Sirah wines to be rather monolithic and one-dimensional. Since our first vintage of Petite Sirah in 1994, we've chosen blending other full-flavored varietals that complement Petite Sirah, and add complexity, layers of flavors, spice and length.

Because we were able to source Petite Sirah from three vineyards in different corners of the Dry Creek Valley showcasing varied terroirs, and that the wine contains a healthy dash of Zinfandel and Carignane, we feel we've created a wine that truly speaks of our "sense of place".

Our 2009 Petite Sirah is a big chewy mouthful, with balance and complexity not traditionally found in varietal bottlings of this "not-so-petite" wine

 246 Cab

2009 2-4-6 Cab, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bradford Mountain Vineyard

Tasting Notes:

The first and eagerly awaited vintage from our replanted Bradford Mountain Vineyard after removing the 20 year old, Phylloxera affected vines in December 2006.
Young vines are capable of producing some truly delicious and special wines, and the mountain vineyard in 2009 was no exception, but we felt that without the benefit of Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot to blend into the final assemblage, the wine was not quite in line with our Bradford Mountain Vineyard bottlings of past years. Hence we have continued our small-lots label Cabernet for one last vintage.
With ample acidity, balanced tannin, and moderate alcohol, this Cabernet should cellar well for 6-8 years and develop beautiful bottle bouquet to complement the fruit forward quality that makes it so delicious in it's youth.
