Soon the gyms will be full of people working on their New Years resolutions and trying to get off some pounds in anticipation of spring. Unfortunately, for many, they will only be there for a month or two and will quit due to a lack of noticeable progress. Don't fall victim to only using the scale to measure your progress. Here is a tip for those of you who are going to be getting back into the workout routine and will be facing the inevitable soreness that comes along with using muscle that you haven't used for quite a while. DOMS or delayed onset muscle soreness is a term that is used if you have muscle soreness that peaks in 48 to 72 hours after exercise and then subsides in 5 to 7 days. DOMS is the result of excessively breaking down muscle tissue accompanied by some inflammation. One way to help avoid it is to start out with lighter weights and lift a lot less than you know you can handle. But that is easier said than done since you will initially feel like you could lift a lot more weight and will be motivated to get on with it.
I have some information that will greatly reduce the soreness when you overdo it. Along with the obvious need for increased protein, I would advise increased branch chain amino acids as well as glutamine. The amino acid Glutamine makes up over 50% of your muscle and adding it to your recovery will make a big difference in muscle recovery. Also the branch chains, leucine, isoleucine and valine make up a significant part of your muscle amino acids and are considered essential, meaning you can only get them through your diet. Our bodies can make some of the other aminos, but not the branch chains.
NEW Max Muscle's ProBCAA has the whole complex of glutamine, leucine, isoleucine and valine. It is a great product to add to your recovery and will help you get better results whether you are a power athlete, endurance athlete or just trying to lose some body fat and get in better shape. I would recommend approximately 50mg of branch chains per pound of body weight for the best benefit. One serving of Max ProBCAAs is 11.4grams, a significant amount. The serving could be split and taken at two different times of day. Branch chains also help to enhance endurance and are available to be used to produce energy in our bodies without first passing through the liver. Our bodies will break down muscle tissue and use the branch chains from our muscle when we push hard. That is why many people will sip on branch chains during a workout. This can have a protective effect on our muscle during exercise. For endurance athletes, branch chains also help to minimize Central Fatigue Syndrome which can affect performance during long events.
I would recommend Branch Chains to help muscle recovery during heavy workouts or for those people who are getting back into it and want to avoid those weeks of agony that can come along with a return to the gym. This stuff really works.
