What started 10 years as an opportunity to raise funds to build a new rink for kids in New Brunswick has turned into a yearly trek for teams all over the world. Event Manager Danny Braun talks about how the World Pond Hockey Championships got started back in 2002 and how big the event has become in 2010.
"Initially, back in 2000 we had a Maritime drag racing event and had to have over 3,000 square feet of ice on the river," Braun states. "After giving out prize money, we weren't making much money on the event. The idea of creating a pond hockey tournament came to mind and could help fund a local rink."
