Chess is a game of strategy and patience, taking one move at a time. That could also be said about Concordia Alum Russ Makofsky's creation of, New York City Chess Inc, based in Greenwich Village, NYC. This venture is committed to advancing the important game of chess through affordable private and group lessons, scholastic programs, instructional classes, and all levels of tournaments.

Makofsky, who's mother grew up in Montreal, spent his youth on Long Island, NY. He chose to attend Concordia for his post secondary education and attended the John Molson School of Business with a focus on finance. Additionally, he played for the Concordia Stingers basketball team. "It was an opportunity to get in touch with my Canadian heritage and traveling through basketball, allowed me to see more of this beautiful country," Makofsky states.
