A Weekend to Remember
The Alumni Association hosted the 125th annual Alumni Banquet and Awards Presentation at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in New York City on Saturday, May 16. Alumni from all five-year anniversary classes gathered to renew their friendships and celebrate their achievements. The Classes of 1984 and 1959 received special recognition on their 25th and 50th anniversaries through the presentation of silver and gold diplomas, respectively. They also had an opportunity to mingle with the next generation of doctors from the Class of 2009. George Tilley, M.D. '59, the 50th Reunion Class Gift Committee Chair, said that it was delightful to be able to go back and see his classmates. "Amazingly, with the ones that you'd been close to while you were in school, you could pick up where you left off even though you hadn't seen them for fifty years. I would encourage other reunion class members to think way ahead and plan on going!" Read more. |
How to Make Depreciated Securities Work for You in a Down Economy
Making a charitable gift of depreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds can be a source of significant tax savings in the current economy, and it's a great way to support New York Medical College. To receive the maximum tax credit, you should sell the depreciated securities first, and then donate the proceeds to New York Medical College. That way you can claim a charitable gift tax deduction AND claim a capital loss deduction. Each situation is unique, so be sure to consult your tax or financial advisor before making your donation.
To learn more about how even depreciating securities can benefit you, please contact Dee Demling, Director of Advancement Services, at dee_demling@nymc.edu or 914-594-4542. She'll be glad to help you. |
