NACEDA SUMMIT BEGINS MARCH 31

The National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations, our equivalent national organization,  is hosting its Annual Summit at the  end of March.  We would love to see a group of Marylanders attend!  Below are the basics; for for more information, please visit the NACEDA Website.

When: Monday, March 31 to Wednesday, April 2, 2008.
Where: DoubleTree Hotel
              1515 Rhode Island Ave., NW
              Washington, D.C. 20005

This Summit is the premier national event for the CED field, and attendees will include sister association executives, Board members and staff, our partners and policy makers in the housing and community development field. We expect 150 attendees who want to network, learn from their peers, get updates on federal programs/policies and legislation and meet with their representatives in Congress. Highlights of the 2008 conference will include:

  • Congressional speakers; such as Congressman Barney Frank;
  • Federal Policy Briefing from Washington insiders;
  • Peer Group presentations on fundraising, state policy, training/TA/membership, Association Governance;
  • Issue Roundtables (Rural Issues, HOME, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, CDBG, Predatory Lending Legislation, IDA/Asset Development, Foreclosure Prevention/Rescue; and
  • Congressional visits.

Barney Frank, Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, which oversees the Housing Subcommittee and one of the most respected legislators in Congress will highlight NACEDA's Summit as a keynote speaker.

STATE CDBG OPENING AND TRAINING ANNOUNCED


Non-entitlement communities take note! The State of Maryland's Community Development Block Grant Program  Opening and Application Training for State Fiscal Year 2009 will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 9:30 am until noon at the Department of Housing and Community Development in Crownsville. If you are a nonprofit interested in using CDBG funds, you should be talking to the town or county in which your project is located now! More information and ways to register for the free training can be found at the DHCD website.

MAHT DEADLINE LOOMING

The Maryland Affordable Housing Trust's 28th funding round is open, and applications are due at 4 pm on Friday, March 14, 2008. For more information, visit the DHCD website..
