"Keeping You in the Loop" Fall 2008
|
|
Greetings!
Well it's wrapping up to be quite a year indeed. We are in for some very momentous changes ahead. PLEASE get out and vote this Tuesday - do I even need to say it? And do check out the voting section of this newsletter - including a PSA I shot recently that sums it up quite well.
I had an incredibly full summer directing my first play, BIRTH, so great in fact, that I had to scale down my summer concert series. This fall I have been returning inside project-wise; taking work only as it flows to me - which is actually working out pretty well! Read on to check out what I have been up to: from the brilliant to the boring to the bizarre!
And
as always, please feel free to email me any comments, feedback,
or unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link below.
Thanks Again for All Your Support and Enthusiasm, Aimée

BIRTH, a Play by Karen Brody, Rocks Brava Theater Center this Labor Day at Birthfest 2008 Aimee's Directing Debut an Audience and Fundraising Hit!
 ©DeniseDoylePhotography2008
BRAVA THEATER CENTER, San Francisco - The first annual Birthfest was abuzz with many families, birth professionals and enthusiasts, and mommies-to-be this Labor Day Sunday in SF's Mission District. The guests loved the workshops, films, vendors, food, and speakers focusing on natural childbirth. The evening's crowning event, BIRTH (Brody's Vagina-Monologues-esque play of birth stories) was enthusiastically received by a full audience, and followed by an informative and impassioned talkback with playwright Karen Brody and local birth celebs. Audience members called the evening: "Powerful... incredible...deeply moving... and extremely educational." We were able to raise funds for 8 full scholarships to the Natural Birth Institute's doula* training programs. A special thank you to our friends and family who volunteered to make this event happen, and to our amazing cast. Brava, everyone!
*What is a doula? Trained labor support who "mothers the mother" during pregnancy, labor, and the post partum period. As part of my directorial research, i trained as a doula, and continue to attend births. Visit www.naturalbirthinstitute.com for more information.

Music Music Music
Cabaret
This summer I was lucky enough to debut my duo cabaret show with Amy Dondy, "Twice in Love with Amy/Aimee", and was featured as a special guest at Amy's solo show in August, "Wish Upon the Moon". Another special thanks to those who helped pack out both nights at Angelica's Bistro in Downtown Redwood City! Stay tuned for my solo cabaret show in 2009...
Opera? Well, you guessed it - I got over-committed this summer directing, producing, performing, and yes, vacationing! Many apologies to those who were looking forward to Opera Nights... we'll just have to let this one develop when the time is right.
Private Events What a joy singing for family and friends - thanks to the wonderful folks who have given me the opportunity to customize their events, including the Italian Athletic Club of SF, and the Sequoia Awards of Redwood City.

Election 2008
Bringing It Home

It has been so exciting to witness nearly everyone I know become impassioned about this election, and where we stand as Americans. Patriotism is suddenly en vogue! I've had the honor of participating in my own way: attending a local ballot brunch with informed friends (thanks Edward and Ruth!), making campaign calls, and most publically, acting in a top-rated voting PSA. I have witnessed my friends and family come alive in new ways, and do their part to contribute to the cause of creating a better America. Below are links and blurbs on some of my favorites.

Film/TV/Misc Media Update
FILM: Etude in Black I recently wrapped a romantic short film set in San Francisco, directed by Mal Karman. I play the "other" love interest... screenings TBA. I'm Through with White Girls has landed the shelves of video stores across America. Can you guess who i play in this witty romantic comedy about stereotypes? Buy or rent it now on DVD! Drag Me to Hell Don't miss Sam Raimi's most recent return to horror this Spring. I play a saleswoman in a non-horriffic (!) scene with Alison Lohman.
TV/RADIO: It's not my face this time you'll recognize, it's my croaker! Invisalign Braces (does anyone actually wear these? I am dying to know!) and a few McDonald's iced coffee spots from this summer have kept my chords flowing over the airwaves.
MISC. MEDIA: Mobilize the Vote
Catch this eerie take on what America might become if we don't vote. Voted YouTube #1 Featured Video in 20 countries! Dead Space Watch me (as brief love-interest Natalie Gauthier) get annihilated by creepy aliens in EA's new sci-fi game - in stores now! Godfather II That voice again, but this time en espanol! EA's Godfather II video game, featuring the Cuban version of me, launches on February 1, 2009.
