Greetings!

Welcome! We are pleased to bring you the second volume of our newsletter which will continue to give you "news you can use" about transitioning from school-to-work and getting a good start in a career.  This newsletter features articles and information for teens and young adults ages 15 - 29.  We will help you navigate from high school through higher education and into a career that you enjoy.

This is our seventh newsletter.  The focus is on both high school age students and young adults.  Carol Christen has just finished the writing of the second edition of What Color Is Your Parachute? for Teens, which will be available next spring (2010). This newsletter is devoted to listing some of the new resources she found during her latest round of research.

Books:
  • Getting Real:  Helping Teens Find Their Futures, by Kenneth C. Gray

  • College Admissions Together:  It Takes a Family, by Stephen Goodman and Andrea Leiman

  • If you think doing information interviews is lame, terrifying, or pointless, please read Make Things Happen by Lara Zielin (Lobster Press, 2003). This book is fun and easy to read and gives you the complete low-down on how and why to do information interviews (also called "networking") in 106 pages. The book has a great explanation of the Six Degrees of Separation and how it is used in job hunting
