From the Principal's Desk
RECORD ATTENDANCE! You all are an amazing wealth of support! Our Parents' Club meeting had over 115 in attenance! It was a fantastic evening of information and community building. Thank you for your support. Unfortunately we ran out of food, sorry! We will be better prepared next month!
On Thursday, September 11th our students participated in Adoration in the curch. Each class came over and spend some sacred time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It was a wonderful time for all ages fo students who were able to experience their faith in a special way.
During morning drop off, please remember to not get out of your car as our faculty are there to help students unload and get going for the day. This will assist us in keeping the line moving. Also remember parking is outside of the fence and along the street. Thank you for your collaboration!
Free Dress Days - Please remember to wear proper running shoes on these days so that your child can fully participate in PE. Guidelines are in our handbook.
Health type magazines are needed for our Healthy Living elective course. Please send in any of these magazine for Miss Mabry. Thank you!

Hurricane Ike Relief "taking action for the common good." Next Wednesday, September 24th, our community will have the chance to "take action for the common good" by helping out those affected by Hurricane Ike last weekend. In exchange for an extra Non-Uniform Day for Charity this month. We are asking the students to bring in a gift card from stores that would help with basic needs that so many of these families are in need of. Gift cards from stores such as · Home Depot, · Walmart, · Target, · HEB, · or any gas cards would be wonderful. If the students would like to bring in $2.00 instead of a gift card that would be very helpful as well! This is another chance of practicing philanthropy! Let's all do what we can to help! All the gift cards and money collected will be turned over to Catholic Charities to distribute.
Let me introduce
Mrs. McNulty-Stephens (aka Mrs. MEMS)
Mrs. McNulty -Stephens joins us this year as our Technology Coordinator. Having subbed for us last year, she is not a 'new' face, just with us in a new role. She and her husband moved to Austin in the summoer of 2007. She is a native of Washinton DC where she taught in Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Washington for 20 years. Several of those were spent teaching technology, writing curriculum and seeking grants. As she was trying ot find a teaching position she was "struck by the positive word-of-mouth reputation of St. Austin."

Vision and Hearing Screening Each year students in specified grades are required to have their vision and hearing and scoliosis screened. Since we do not have full nursing services on site, we contract out this screening. Parents may choose to have us complete the screening and we will bill you through FACTS or you may do it through their own provider. Please fill out the VHS form on the website and return it by September 22. If we do not receive a copy of these screenings done by your own provider by the October 2 screening date, we must screen your child and you will be billed accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation!
Marathon Kids 2008-2009
Marathon KidsŪ is a free, twelve-year-old, trademarked, incremental, school and community based fitness program. It is a six month endurance-building running/walking, nutrition and schoolyard gardening project for K-5th graders and their families. Marathon Kids packets for students in Kinder through 5th grade have gone out in folders this week. This program is fun, challenging, and really encourages kids to adopt running and eating well as a way of life. Registration forms must be returned to Ms. Galvin (or to the office or homeroom teacher) by September 25th. Should you have any questions about the program, please email Ms. Galvin- kgalvin@staustinschool.org
The Kick-Off Celebration is on Saturday, October 4th. This is the same day that the Mother-Son football game is scheduled, and Ms. Galvin would like all parents to know that it is not mandatory to attend the Kick- Off Celebration. Students can count running sports toward their Marathon Kids miles, therefor if they attend the Mother-Son football game, they may color in 1/4 of a pie (1/4 mile) on their chart. Please let Ms. Galvin know if you plan to attend the Kick-Off, and if not, please still consider having your students participate in Marathon Kids- as there are so many benefits of their program. Fall Individual and Sports Picture Day- Save the Date Fall picture envelopes will be sent out to families next Tuesday, September 16th. Picture Day is on Thursday, September 25th.
