CAREY'S CONVERSATIONS

"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."- John 10.10

The verse above reminds us that Christ came to give us abundant life. This coming Sunday, November 20th   that is being called "Time to Thrive" marks our in gathering of our stewardship campaign. At both morning services we will come together to celebrate and give thanks for the many gifts we have been given. At the offertory our ushers will bring forward to the altar a large board to symbolize the giving of our time and talent. The board contains over 8o names representing over 30 ministries and over 5,000 hours of volunteer service.

I'd like to explain how we would like to collect the pledge cards that symbolize the giving of our treasure during the worship service. During the announcements I will ask our ushers to provide you with a privacy envelope in which to place your card. Then rather than placing your card in the offering plate we ask that on your way up to the altar for communion you place your card into the basket located near the altar. The cards that have already been turned in will already be in the basket. At the conclusion of the offertory our ushers will take these gifts to our Jr. Warden, Dan Dennis and other vestry members who will begin to tally them. A list will be compiled of all those parishioners who have not turned in a card. Then on Monday and Tuesday, members of the vestry will call these folk in order to make sure we have final count so that we can plan our budget for 2012.

We stand at the threshold of a great time in the life of St. Luke's. Please do all that you can to help us grow!

Yours in Christ

Advent and Christmas Happenings

Chris Schaefer has prepared a beautiful brochure of what is happening at St. Luke's in Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany. It will be in your Sunday bulletin and there are extra copies in the Narthex.
Second, we will be serving Christmas to four local families.

Providing Christmas for Families of students at a local middle School in St. Luke's neighborhood

Below is a list of four families St. Luke's will be helping to provide Christmas. The names were given to us by the counselor at their near by school, Ann Pollard. If you would like to help with these families, let the contact person for each group sponsoring the family know. I will get to them the name of the family and names and sizes and a wish list for each child. The presents should be wrapped and brought to St. Luke's parish hall on Tuesday December 13, with the name of the family and the child's name and we plan to deliver them on Wednesday the 14th.  Even if you are not in the group assigned for each family, you can help out. Kroger or Walmart gift cards are also a good idea. Clothing will be the priority.  Most of the teenagers would like an MP3 or IPOD and gift cards to buy music.  If you have any questions, please contact me. May God bless you for this great ministry to those who live just a few blocks from us and need our love and support and prayers. This is a chance to make a real difference in the life of the child just around the corner from us. [email protected]

FROM THE ORGAN BENCH!

This Sunday is the Last Sunday after Pentecost or Christ the King.  This is the last Sunday of the Church Calendar year.  Next week, we start Advent.  Wow, this year has flown by.

Things look very exciting for Advent here at St. Luke's.  There is alot going on.  The Spirit is alive and well here and I know I am not alone in gratefulness for that.

The Chancel Bell Choir will be playing the Offertory anthem this week.  The music is a great arrangement of our last hymn this Sunday, Crown Him with many Crowns.  It is a rhythmic and exciting version of this well beloved hymn that has a middle section that is more contempletive.

It finishes in a repeat of the beginning rhythmic intensity.  I hope you enjoy this piece as much as the bell choir has enjoyed rehearsing it.  We are SO fortunate to have so many dedicated people in our ministry of music.  I consider myself lucky to be here at St. Luke's.

DOK PRAYER CARDS FOUND IN PEW RACKS

Since 1885 Daughters around the world have offered daily prayers on behalf of those in need. Here at St. Luke's NLR, St. Emma's Chapter continues that tradition. Please write your prayer requests for self or others on the prayer cards found in the pew racks. Place them in the white box on the shelf inside the church entrance. "For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." Romans 8:26

ATRIUM 3 NEWS

On November 13th, we saw the presentation of The Mystery of Our Faith and the Prayers of Intercession.  This presentation seeks to further explore "The Mystery of our Faith," by laying out the words strips (Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.) and picture cards that show this mystery.  Then we extend this mystery by laying out picture and word cards that show the prayers of intercession, the ones we say during our service, connect this mystery to all peoples in all times.  We show this work because the "Mystery of our Faith" is the mystery beyond mystery, one that encompasses the essence of our faith, one that extends to all peoples in all times, and one that we remember during our service by proclaiming these words and offering prayers of intercessory for all of those who have dwelt or now dwell upon this mystery.

We are moving our Atrium!  During the month of December, the Level 3 children will be moving our classroom to #107 so we can be near the other children.  Look for more information as the time comes near to paint!

What a blessing your children are to us!
