Padre's ponderings

Permanent nursery attendants: This is urgent.  Help is needed locating someone to work permanently in the nursery.  (Charlette and Sheila spoiled St. Luke's for 17 years.)  Please, if you know anyone who might be available and can pass a background check, let Dan Dennis or the office know.  Currently Nanny Solutions is staffing the nursery, but this is not a suitable long term solution and they are expensive.

People are interested in what we will be up to when things here are concluded.

-August 7 - not to waste any time - we leave for our house in Gulf Shores.

-Return here probably Labor Day for a doctor's appointment on September 7.

-We'll leave shortly after that for Phoenix and a rail trip to the Grand Canyon 15-19 September.

-Sightsee in the area for six days and then fly to Los Mochis, Mexico to take a rail trip in Copper Canyon from 26 Sept -2 Oct.

-My brother and sister winter in Arizona, and we'll stand by to see them if they are there by mid October.

-Other than that, things are pretty open ended after 2 October.  We may pop up to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks since they are reasonably in the area.

-We'll probably return directly to Gulf Shores until???  Judith says until after Christmas, but I think we'll be back before then, although we may spend Christmas there.

It's liberating, after eighteen months, to not have a regular schedule to keep, or answer to anyone except Judith.

It appears the prayer lists, especially for military, will be pared considerably by the end of the month.  We probably have been praying for people who have long returned from the war zones.

From the organ bench!

The bell choir will resume their rehearsals after a long absence this Wednesday evening at 6:15 pm.  If you are interested in either joining or helping out, please let me know.  No experience is necessary....you don't have to read music.  You just have to be able to pick up a bell and ring it.

Faith is an interesting concept.  Someone recently asked me what faith meant to me.  I said that the word faith means to have confidence or trust in a person or thing.  Interesting huh?  Where does that leave us in a Christ based religion?

I have confidence that God knows more than I do.  I have faith that Jesus' message on this earth is the way for me find salvation.

I also have faith that by worshipping God in community finds me in a closer relationship with God.

God bless you,

Michael

Prayer lists
The office is updating our prayer lists.  If you would like your friends, family or loved ones to stay on the list, please contact the office by email or call.  This includes our armed forces list.  The deadline will be Tuesday July 26.  Thank you for your help.

Only the person who has faith in himself is able to be faithful to others.

Highway Clean-up

The next highway clean-up will be August 13, 2011 after the Churchmen's Breakfast around 9:30 am.

MOVIE NIGHT

The music ministries of St. Luke's is sponsoring a Movie Night on July 27, 2011 at 7:00 pm in the adult forum classroom.  "NOEL-MIRACLES ARE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK".  Come see this movie that shows all of us how we sometimes see or don't see other people and how we react to others.  The movie stars Penelope Cruz, Susan Sarandon, Paul Walker, Alan Arkin and Robin Williams.  We will have snacks and sodas for a Christmas in July fun time.

ECW News

The UTO (United Thank Offering) boxes are here.  If you have not gotten yours, please pick one up in the Narthex or call Martha Mayland (835-6411).  The end gathering will be in November. St. Luke's Respite Care program has been the fortunate recipient of a UTO grant in the past.  Your pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters can really add up and do so much good.  The next general meeting will be August 9, 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  It is open to ALL women of the church.  Come see what we have planned for the fall!

Brotherhood of St. Andrew

There will be a meeting of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew Wednesday July 20th, 2011 at 6 pm in the library.

Back to the Beach

Saturday, August 6th @ 6:00pm

The Baum's are headed back to the beach.

Come help celebrate their time shared with the St Luke's family.

Dress the part. Throw on your shorts, flip flops,

sunhats and favorite beach shirt.

Sign up in the Narthex with your best beach dish.

Mark your calendar!

August 20th will be a fun evening as we welcome our new priest and deacon.   We will have a potluck at 6pm followed by entertainment by the Bob Boyd Sounds.  Bring your dancin' shoes and be prepared to have a good time as we kick off the fall season and welcome our new staff.

DOK prayer cards found in pew racks

The Daughters of the King take a vow to live a life of prayer.  Daily prayers are held using a confidential list that is continually updated.  We want to receive your prayer requests for any needs you, a family member, or friend may have.  Place your completed card in the white box on the shelf inside the church entrance. "Almighty God, help us to pray so faithfully that we may draw near to you and learn your will."  Our Lord expects to hear from us, and we will not disappoint Him!
