RTC OPUS

 

If so, your RTC (OPUS) card must be renewed. Bring it to room 272 before 9.00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

If you are 19 years old or will be by September 30th, you must return your OPUS card. Your card will be "encoded" so you may keep purchasing your tickets at a student rate. This is free of charge but only happens once. Bring your cards to my desk in room 272 before September 18th at 9.00 am. The RTC will bring back new cards at the end of the day.

Student Council Logo STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Will be held Thursday September 13th. 
Positions available to first year students only:

Vice-President (Assisting the President with everyday student council operations)
Assistant Social Officer (Helping the social officer organize and prepare events as well as keeping records of past events).
Administrative Agent:  Person in charge of managing the Council's agenda and files in addition to overseeing material distribution. This role requires astute organizational skills and the ability to be comfortable with computer works.

Position available to first year and second year students:
Artistic Director: Person in charge of creative components surrounding the Council's work. This role requires drawing and/or graphic abilities.

OPEN MIC NIGHT

A Major Cultural Event at St. Lawrence!! The First Monthly Open Mic!!

 

 

Open Mic This Thursday, September 27, 19:30. Where? The beautiful St. Lawrence cafeteria
What is Open Mic? Performers sign up in room 272 (student activities) and perform during showtime for a maximum of 15 minutes
You can perform anything you want: Songs, monologues, poetry,music...you name it!
Open Mic is like an easy going coffee shop where students, teachers and staff live out their performance fantasies!



Guest Speakers
Mr. Leslie Vertes will be a guest speaker at the college on October 23, 2012, during the noon to 14:00 period.
 Leslie is a survivor of the Holocaust, and he is coming to share his story, his experiences and give testimony to the horrors of xenophobia, hatred, racism and genocide.  He has been our guest twice before at St. Lawrence, and the the students very much appreciated his presentation and benefitted from his message.

Light the night walk
Have some fun while helping out a great cause!
On Sept. 22, the Light the Night Walk will be taking place on the Plains of Abraham. This walk helps in raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Students from St-Lawrence are forming a team in order to raise money.

If you were once a student for a day, your experience with this program would be great!
However, no experience is necessary! "Your smile is your best asset." All you need to do is to meet with visitors, show them our campus and take them to your classes for half a day only. You play an important part in helping students decide whether or not St. Lawrence is for them.

In the team standings, the Lions sit in first place 5 strokes ahead of John Abbott College.  On the individual side, in the Women's division, Valerie Tanguay is in first place, 4 shots better than her closest rival.  On the men's side, Jean-Michel Veillette finished in first place, shooting a 2 under 70.  He leads by 4 strokes.  Four other Lions are in the top-10: Joseph Maltais (3rd), William Turcotte and Pierre-Luc Giroux (tied for 5th), and Ludovic Caron (7th).  The next leg of the collegiate circuit will be held Sunday, September 16 in Warwick.

 

Cross Country Team: The cross-country team had its first race on Saturday, Sept. 8. Cynthia Beaulieu finished 18th in the women's category and Matthew Turcotte lead the charge for the Lions, finishing in 16th out of the 100+ men's field. The men's team finished 10/15. Next race is September 23 at Victoriaville.

The English Writing Workshop:
The workshop may be found in room # 263 (in the Library).  
English peer tutors:
The names of the English peer tutors are posted on various bulletin boards around campus. Tutors can be contacted by email to set an appointment.  For more information concerning the Writing Workshop and/or the English Peer Tutoring Program, please contact Louise Gauthier in office #324 (lgauthier@slc.qc.ca) or by MIO.
The English Peer Tutor Drop-in Service will open its doors on September 25th and 27th from 12h10 to 1h55. In room 340. This service will be offered until the week preceding final exams. Students are seen on a strictly first come first served basis. 

Methodology:
This workshop will  help with your papers and essays. Help you understand with APA or MLA style, top-notch outlines and annotated bibliographies. Any many other essay and writing related information. Where? Rm 255 (in the library).

MINOR OFFICIALS
We are now hiring students with prior experience to work as minor officials at our home basketball games. Please come to room 272 to give your name. You must be available various evenings and weekends.  


PEER TUTORS IN SOCIAL SCIENCE AND SCIENCE
The St. Lawrence Peer-Tutoring program is actively looking for tutors to help first or second-year students in following subjects: Math,  Macro Economics, Quantitavie Methods,  Accounting and sometimes a few other courses.
If you are interested in offering your services to help fellow students overcome their difficulties in these subjects please see Joanne Gosselin room 272.
Peer tutors must be second or third year students. Tutors are paid $10.00 an hour.

IMPORTANT: Everyone (teams, students, faculty)  must have a membership card to the fitness center and will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard or supervisor.
