Will be held Tuesday September 11th. 
Positions available to first year students only:

Vice-President (Assisting the President with everyday student council operations)
Assistant Social Officer (Helping the social officer organize and prepare events as well as keeping records of past events).
Administrative Agent:  Person in charge of managing the Council's agenda and files in addition to over viewing seeing material distribution. This role requires astute organizational skills and the ability to be comfortable with computer works.

Position available to first year and second year students:
Artistic Director: Person in charge of creative components surrounding the Council's work. This role requires drawing and/or graphic abilities.

Campaigning starts Wednesday, September 5th and the speeches will be presented on Tuesday, September 11th. The voting will follow the speeches.

musical notes RADIO ROOM AUDITIONS 

On Thursday September 6th and Friday September  7th we will be holding auditions for anybody who'd like to try-out! Register on the sign-up sheet placed on the door of the radio (room 134E in the caf) or contact me Carmen Rachiteanu  by MIO. Pick the time that best suits your needs! If ever those days do not work for you, just write us a MIO, and we'll make it work!

So, if you like music, enjoy shows, and want to make the ears of everybody in the school bleed of excitement as you diffuse music in our wonderful cafeteria, we radio people are who you want to hang out with! Just bring us your iPod, and get ready for the audition of your life!

Amnesty International  

If you have an interest in social justice, the first meeting of our local SLC Amnesty International group will be held next Thursday, September 6 in room 242 from 12h10 to 1h00ish.

We will sign letters to ask for the release of some political prisoners and discuss about our projects for the year. It is a very informal group where you participate according to your availability and everyone is warmly welcome.

What is Open Mic? Performers sign up in room 272 (student activities) and perform during showtime for a maximum of 15 minutes
You can perform anything you want: Songs, monologues, poetry,music...you name it!
Open Mic is like an easy going coffee shop where students, teachers and staff live out their performance fantasies!



Guest Speakers
Mr. Leslie Vertes will be a guest speaker at the college on October 23rd, 2012, during the noon to 14:00 period.
 Leslie is a survivor of the Holocaust, and he is coming to share his story, his experiences and give testimony to the horrors of xenophobia, hatred, racism and genocide.  He has been our guest twice before at St. Lawrence, and the the students very much appreciated his presentation and benefitted from his message.


 

Guest Speaker: Ms Julie Slattery, expert on autism and other developmental disorders among young people.  Thursday November 1st in room 268 at 12:15.

If you were once a student for a day, your experience with this program would be great!
However, no experience is necessary! "Your smile is your best asset." All you need to do is to meet with visitors, show them our campus and take them to your classes for half a day only. You play an important part in helping students decide whether or not St. Lawrence is for them.

The English Writing Workshop:
Remember better English means better grades in all your subjects. The workshop may be found  room # 263 (in the Library). Take advantage of this workshop.It's free and coming to the English Writing Workshop can only help to improve the quality of your English
English peer tutors:
Students can begin to avail themselves of the English peer tutoring service as of  August 29, 2012. The names of the English peer tutors are posted on various bulletin boards around campus. Tutors can be contacted by email to set an appointment. Like the English teachers in the  Writing Workshop, peer tutors enable their clients to identify errors and edit their own work.English peer tutors will help their clients with all written assignments and will also assist students with spoken English, including oral prsenntations, as well as with CV's, applications letters, articles for the student newpaper, etc. This service is provided free of charge. For more information concerning the Writing Workshop and/or the English Peer Tutoring Program, please contact Louise Gauthier in office #324 (lgauthier@slc.qc.ca) or by MIO.

Methodology:
This workshop will  help with your papers and essays. Help you understand with APA or MLA style, top-notch outlines and annotated bibliographies. Any many other essay and writing related information. Where? Rm 255 (in the library).

MINOR OFFICIALS
We are now hiring students with prior experience to work as minor officials at our home basketball games. Please come to room 272 to give your name. You must be available various evenings and weekends.  

FITNESS CENTRE SUPERVISOR
We are now hiring students to work in the fitness center 2 hours a day Monday to Friday from 17h00 to 19h00 and or Saturday and Sunday 12h30 to 14h30. This schedule may be broken up between two or more students. Please come to room 272 to give your name.
 
PEER TUTORS IN SOCIAL SCIENCE AND SCIENCE
The St. Lawrence Peer-Tutoring program is actively looking for tutors to help first or second-year students in following subjects: Math,  Macro Economics, Quantitavie Methods,  Accounting and sometimes a few other courses.
If you are interested in offering your services to help fellow students overcome their difficulties in these subjects please see Joanne Gosselin room 272.
Peer tutors must be second or third year students. Tutors are paid 10.00$ an hour.
 

WILL YOU BE 19 YEARS OLD BY SEPTEMBER 30TH?
RTC OPUS

 

If so, your RTC (OPUS) card must be renewed. Bring to room 272 before 9.00 am Tuesday September 11th 2012.

If you are 19 years old or will be by September 30th, you must return your OPUS card. Your card will be "encoded" so you may keep purchasing your tickets at a student rate. This is free of charge but only happens once. Bring your cards to my desk in room 272 before September 18th at 9.00 am. The RTC will bring back new cards at the end of the day.

Light the night walk
Have some fun while helping out a great cause!
On Sept. 22, the Light the Night Walk will be taking place on the Plains of Abraham. This walk helps in raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Students from St-Lawrence are forming a team in order to raise money.

IMPORTANT: Everyone (teams, students, faculty) you must have a membership card to the fitness center and will be asked to show appropriate identification to the security guard or supervisor. If you can not present a card you will be asked to leave immediately. To obtain your card, please come to room 272.
