U CONGRATULATIONS! SLC STUDENT AMÉLIE BEAUDOIN WINS:
Teacher / Coach of the Year 2011
At the annual gala of the Quebec Sailing Federation held last Saturday, Amelia received this award. The award aims to encourage the coach or the teacher who was most involved in the development of sailing and has shown determination, initiative and good organizational skills.

ECO-St. Lo
| Here is your green tip of the week from ECO-St. Lo, your award-winning local environment group. Just because something is within financial reach doesn't mean we should immediately run out and buy it. We should ask ourselves the following three questions while considering a potential purchase, even if we can afford it:
1. Do I really need to buy this? 2. Does this purchase improve my life in a significant manner? 3. Is this item worth my money?
If we're honest with ourselves , we're likely to avoid many frivolous purchases. And if we avoid buying stuff, we're obviously putting much less stress on the planet.
Check out the following famous video on why we should reduce our consumption of Stuff; it's called The Story of Stuff and it's a cult favourite:

DO YOU NEED TO TAKE THE SAT?
| Students planning to go study in the States are generally required to complete SAT testing. The test is administered by the College Board. Canadian students are considered to be international students, and therefore, must register at the latest November 8, 2011 for the December 3 test date. We strongly encourage you to apply by the October 25 (early registration deadline) if you are sure of taking the test. Students planning to take both the SAT and SAT Subject tests must do so on two separate testing days. St. Lawrence is an authorized testing center. Students wishing to take the SAT can register for the December 3 or January 28 test dates. Although St. Lawrence is an authorized testing center, you must register online at http://sat.collegeboard.org and pay your testing fees to the College Board. Study materials are available at your library. You may also use free online practice tools or order additional practice material. The registration booklets, as well as the preparation booklets, are available in the Counselling Office, room 254. Our test center code is 97261 (if you don't find our name on the list, you may also search by code). If you have any questions about the registration process, you may contact Nicole Anne Daigle, Guidance Counsellor. |
So Hot, So Not
|
You go out. You have a drink. You're feeling at ease with yourself and people like you that way. There's even someone in particular who seems to have eyes only for you. But all too quickly, you drink too much. The person you're with is now totally turned off. The evening is ruined. How do you think you look now? And how are you going to get home? This campaign is a reminder that it's fun to have a drink with your friends. Enjoyed in moderation, alcohol can help you relax and put you in the mood for fun. But too much alcohol can make you very unpleasant to be with. And never mind driving when your faculties are impaired! Everyone enjoys celebrating with friends during the Holiday Season. But if you don't know your limit, the best party can quickly turn sour - and dangerous. Despite all the alarming statistics and prevention campaigns, far too many party-goers are still drinking too much and putting their lives and the lives of others at risk. The consequences of alcohol abuse are serious. Drunk driving is one of them. Éduc'alcool and Opération Nez Rouge encourage you to behave responsibly- no moral judgement implied. Please pick up the phone and call a taxi, a friend, a relative or Nez rouge to make sure your evening ends well. |
