Green tip of the week from your ECO-ST. Lo, your local environ- ment group.
We should definitely recycle our cell phones! Why? Recycling our cells helps to protect our environment - by eliminating solid and toxic waste, which would otherwise enter our landfills if the cell phones are not recycled, reused or properly disposed of. (Cell phones and their rechargeable batteries contain many hazardous and toxic materials.) Doing so also helps recover valuable and reusable resources - parts, components, metals and plastics. For example, coltan is a rare mineral that is an essential component of the electronics we use all the time, including cell phones, computers and digital cameras. The vast majority of the world's reserves are in East Congo. At St. Lawrence it's easy being green!
